3rd Gen subwoofer located under front seat

I'm wanting to add a 10 or 12 inch subwoofer to my 4runners sound system. I'm wondering if anyone has added one under their front seat. More than anything I do not want to lose any space so to go with anything except for those prepackaged amp/woofer combos I want to be sure it will fit. Pioneer makes a shallow mount sub in my price range and I can build my own box.

i have an underseat powered 10" combo. it sounds pretty good for what it is but it obviously wont be as good as a proper set up. Mine's some shitty offbrand (BOSS) but I'm going to replace it with a Kicker unit eventually.for the record with the underseat unit if you have husky liners or weathertechs it won't go under the seat.

I have a Sound Ordinance 8" 125 watt under my driver's seat. It sounds great for what I use it for (just adds some low end, but not overpowering bass). Even though I'm a teenager, I would like to be able to hear things after I listen to music .

That thing looks pretty awesome, to add to a modest system! I might re-think my plans for bass...

My previous plan was to use a 10" sub with a 300 watt Xtant amp. I don't want to lose any trunk space for my offroad adventuring, so I was thinking of building a set of rails into the roof in the rear. I'd build a custom sub enclosure and mount the sub to the roof.

10" sub under the seat is a stretch, 12" under the seat is not possible, it's too big.

Yea, my main goal here is to have it under the seat. If that weren't my main goal is just build a simple box and put two tens in the back. I have a 9 month old daughter and I can't have one more thing in the way.

Another testimonial for the Sound Ordnance B-8PTD. Had mine for around 2 years now, still works great, and Crutchfield is pretty good about replacing anything that turns out defective.

Fits perfectly under the driver's seat, cranks out enough bass for my music tastes, and being right under the seat seems to help it kick above its weight.

Crutchfield is the best. Sometimes their prices are bit inflated, but feel free to email them or chat about anything for a quick response. They will have much more knowledge than us here on the forums. They helped me pick my amp and I love it.

Just build 2 shallow mount 8 inch enclosures for each seat. I built a difficult shape box for my Tacoma double cab so I know a square one won't be as challenging, just get spec about optimal space for best sound in the sub box with speaker.

i'm a noob to the forums but i've owned a bunch of different sub setups in the past: alumapro bp-10, 2 x alpine type s 10's, 1 12" kicker comp. For this car, I want to keep all the cargo space always open so under seat is the only real option for me, price is secondary to performance. I want something that rounds out the sound in all music, including rap & dubstep. I don't need it to overpower and thump hard, but I do want to hear all frequencies as cleanly as possible. Maybe i'm asking for the impossible but with today's new tech.. maybe not...?

crutchfield has a bunch of options but is the kicker ($300) that much better than the sound ordinance ($150)? infinity basslink? alpine pwe-s8?

i'm willing to throw down the cash if the difference in sound quality is there.. anyone with experience on both the kicker and the sound ordinance? Only thing holding me back from the kicker is that I've been reading reviews of people's that don't hold up while members on t4r's sound ordinance's have for several years.

I researched custom 8" builds, but the jl 8w3 and the type r 8" are pretty deep. I haven't measured but I barely can fit the rear headrest under the driver seat when I fold everything down.

One other thing to consider is if you have rear heat or not. If yes, that further limits the amount of space you have down there.

Why not put in the cargo area? It's just a couple of wires and pull the sub out. I've only actually had to remove my 10" powered sub once, and that's when hauling a piece of furniture. On all my camping trips I've just kept it in.

I have one of these under my driver's seat. Sounds pretty good. Just clears the seat underneath when positioned properly.

If I had to do it again, that Alpine unit looks sweet. Lots of power, depth looks good. My kenwood Just clears my power seat movement and it is less than 3" in depth. Maybe the manual seats have more room under there

My 4runner is essentially a 2 seater. I leave the rear seats folded down 95% of the time with the sunshade tucked in the gap between the front and rear seats.

I ended up ordering the Kicker 11HS8. I'll update once it's here.

I'll be installing it for the time being and once it warms up here on the east, I'll be adding as much sound deadener as possible to kill road noise.

I don't know about the current product quality that Boss produces today but Boss is not a off brand in the audio industry. Back in the day, between 1995 and 2000, Boss held the world record for DB drag racing and held the world record for loudest vehicle. I don't remember the exact db levels but I know it was about 180db. Keep in mind 180db in a car is loud enough to make your heart skip a beat.

I run this one in my 4runner and my other daily driver. No complaints at all. It's enough bass to fill the low end of my music nicely without being overly loud or distorted and cause every body or interior panel to vibrate. The 10 fits perfectly under the drivers seat.
