I don't know about the current product quality that Boss produces today but Boss is not a off brand in the audio industry. Back in the day, between 1995 and 2000, Boss held the world record for DB drag racing and held the world record for loudest vehicle. I don't remember the exact db levels but I know it was about 180db. Keep in mind 180db in a car is loud enough to make your heart skip a beat.

I've got a Boss head unit in my 99. It sucks balls. Sounds terrible. Nasty ground buzzz. It was only 80$, cheapest one crutchfields had, so not terribly surprising.
