3rd Gen super flex pics!

Whooops sorry about that. Well $50 was great $40 is even better. Either way you got a smokin' deal. I think the last time you saw my rig I had the 891s in the rear and there was no rake. I have a massive rake now. It's ridiculous lol. I think I'd like to go back down an inch for the rear but I'm going to run with it a while to see how it works. Moab will be a good test if we make it out there this weekend.
Ok, I get you now. Yeah, those springs give a CRAZY rake. But the way you and I run our trucks, it will only help with rear clearance. I think I will have a hole in my tank soon from all the extra flex LOL!. Gonna have to do that tank conversion for sure. So are you still running the Bilstiens on the rear? I tried to put the OME extendeds on there. They were already fully extended, so I went with the LC's.
Let me know what happens with your rear tires. I wasn't quite planning on running the 305's, but right now my 265's rub the rear of the fender well pretty hard in certain flexes.. It's had me a little wary about the 285's without a little help from my sawz-all.
If we can get this setup perfected, we may just start a fad on this site. LOL! Have fun in Moab, I'm so jealous!

Ok Glen, I got you a part #. I got them at Slee Off Road. PN# N74L.

BTW, just noticed your sig. LMAO! I'm shawnstcyr, but I go by Shawn LOL!

do you got a build thread?

i need to know every little thing you did, lol

got the same ride and have the same lc coils for free, good to see you breaking the trail for me!

Yep, I'm running the Bilstein 5100s in the rear. It's about an inch longer than the 5125s. They are 24" shocks. It doesn't let the coil fall out and I think they would be good for a 4 inch lift in the rear. I wanted the 5 to clear the lower rear control arm mounts but I'm talking to Toytec and we're in the plans to see how expensive it will be to have a custom coil made off the 891 platform that will be a 4inch lift. Based on the little wheeling I've done with the 851s I think the extended 891s will be a perfect match.

Why don't you come out and join us in Moab?

Man, I would love that so much, but I am in New York until Saturday morning. I still need to replace my CV when I get home. Besides, money is tight right now. I would be using money from the kids' Christmas and my student loan fund.
I did notice my driver's rear shock was resting on my gas tank the other day. I am running no rear swaybar right now. I don't like to do that, but I hung it up on a rock and really folded it hard. Nothing major, just an observation. For sure let me know what happens with your tires, as far as rubbing on the rear.

Well, it wasn't my intention to blaze a trail by modifying, but I am glad it worked out this way. I got these springs by mistake from a wrecking yard. The owner and I didn't realize what they really were. The LC was laying on the ground with no rims, a victim of fire.

I have no build thread, but am glad to help. Before you do this, let me warn you of some things:

1. Your drive shaft will rub the gas tank and it's skid plate SEVERELY! I highly recommend you remove the grease fitting and replace it with a flat plug. I broke mine off on the very first flex. I will be doing the Isuzu gas tank relocation mod soon.

2. You will need to get the extended brake line. I currently have my extended one connected to my factory flex line. (At least until I can do some measurements at full flex. At this point I will probably have a custom one made.)

3. I had to remove the E Brake cable bracket located mid gas tank. After lifting, my cable was tight and caused the rear brakes to drag.

4. Extended rear swaybar links will be a MUST! Stock ones will max out your rear swaybar. I currently have no rear swaybar. I will be manufacturing my own swaybar links.

Are you planning on doing this on the ground, or at a shop? Let me know and I will give you more instruction.

I got the WABFAB ones, just make sure when you install them do not follow my lead. I figured with my relocation bracket 1" higher and the 4.5 lift I have, would be to set them at 3.5 longer then stock (thought this was most logical). This let the sway bar sit nice and level, but also only a half inch above the lower link arm. First dip I went through I left a slight mark from contact and was very happy I didnt bend my new End link.

You will need to put one wheel at full stuff then set your end link length from that allowing just enough clearance that it doesnt hit the lower link arm. Problem with this is doing this in a stable enough manner you can safely get under the vehicle. Also reaching from the nuts to adjust properly is a major PITA.

not gogin to quote as both ae kinda long,

thanks alot for the heads up on the stuff that always seems to lurk and pop it's head out right when you think your done!

i think that will save some major frustration, i will be doing this ina shop with a full lift and everything, i'm just in parts gather mode right now, i ordered aftermarket sway bars and in the process of making my own end links anyways,
so i think i have that down we'll see how it goes when the parts start to come in.

whats the deal with this gas tank mod? what are the drawbacks? couldn't you just ask your tank to move out of the way nicely with a rubber mallet or making a thinner gauge skid plate made from a stronger material or make a skid plate that has a conical groove in it for the drive shaft? i know i'm probably asking stupid questions that have been gone over....guess in short...
is there no other way around this other than slapping in a smaller gas tank?

...does everyone have this problem?

thanks a ton guys and thanks for being the model for others to follow, it is appreciated.....alot!

thanks again!

All the Co4Lo guys I have met say that the tank rub is normal. However, this much lift will make it worse. I'm told they have spoken nicely with their mallets, still rubs.
I'm told an Isuzu gas tank will fit where the spare tire used to go. With only about a 1 gallon loss in capacity. I plan on doing this and adding armor.

You will have it easy doing this in a garage. I used a hi-lift jack, a floor jack, jackstands, and several large blocks of wood. I would only lift the rear. You will need to disconnect the E brake bracket, rear swaybar, and rear shocks. Make sure you install the extended brake line first! This should give you enough drop to pop the new springs in. If you can flex it enough on one side (with the vehicle in the air) with the floor jack, you shouldn't need a spring compressor. I had hell positioning the compressor just right to be able to install AND remove it. I have done several spring swaps, but the 4Runner design is the least compressor friendly design so far.

Failed PIC thread back from the dead

I to have the gas tank issue with the superflex coils. The drive shaft is digging into the gas tank skid plate. Even going into a driveway at angle. Could also have to do with my one side sway bar link being broken!

Question, i wanna get the savage rear bumper with tire carrier. What you guys think of this with the superflex coils ?
