I just got an 01 4Runner myself and now that I have one, I realized how much of these are STILL on the streets! This must be Toyota's most popular truck ever. Now let me tune this up nicely and then the mods later. Cheers to a great forum!

Thankfully not my last!
My friend was driving his Trooper out in the local canyon when he lost control and crashed.
I was sitting shotgun. Called my girlfriend to come pick me up, then went back home to fetch my 3rd gen.

My friend got too confident trying to slide the back out on turns. He just found out his Trooper came with a limited slip differential factory.
IMO it only takes one crash to level out unsafe driving habits (forever). I know I stopped doing that kind of shit after ramming my first car into a curb.
He came around the corner, oversteering on purpose. He countersteered too much, then swerved yet again to counter. We were going at least 25-35 MPH when the truck was sliding sideways. Keep in mind he has worn out torsion bars and not much for sway bar bushings. It hit a dirt mound on the side of the road and immediately flipped. All I remember was the feeling of "this is seriously happening" and seeing the windshield cracks growing.
When the vehicle came to rest, windshield wipers were going nuts and the back tires were still spinning against the dirt. My friend was repeating "No way" and climbed out. I shut off the ignition and climbed out to assess the damage.
Injuries: hit my head on the B-pillar/roof as it crushed in, cut my lip, and bruised my leg a few places. Neck and body aches. Not pleasant.
I have been terrified since, I was next to two open windows. Some of my belongings ended up in the road while others stayed in the car. We could have died, or been seriously injured. If there were a pole or tree where we went off the road, nothing could have been done to prevent hitting it.
I was able to get my rig down there and flip it back over before anyone gave too much attention.

We camped on Taneum Creek between Cle Elum and Ellensburg, not too far off 90. I decided I wanted to find forest roads that would take us over the mountains back to Cle Elum rather than hop back on 90. This was on NF-3350. Pretty cool, brought us up and over 5000 ft, could see Lake Cle Elum, the Stuart Range. I'll probably go back up and explore more and camp up there soon, as there were a ton of roads.
