No noises.... but hard to say really.... the road to Oba is filled with washboards and potholes. Don't think the joint itself failed.... I think the nuts that hold it on, let go. Still have to get a look at it. I left it on the road, and called a Towtruck to bring it back to town. Over $500.00 tow bill, and sitting in a garage parking lot til Saturday Morning. I got a ride back into town, and got into my Taco to go home to see our family back home.

That suck's, good luck with the repair.

That sucks man. For the sake of the rest of us:

1) Did you re-use old bolts on LBJs?

2) Did you use lock-tite, which color?

3) Did you torque them to spec?

I've been waiting for a week for another vehicle (or a passenger at least) to do this section of a local trail because it's a little steeper than it looks and fairly icy underneath and chances of getting stuck are pretty good. Well, I figure that's what I bought a winch for and no other vehicles around so I threw the dogs in the back of the rig and decided to go for it. I got stuck on the last hump so jumped out and snapped a pic. On the 3rd try it somehow found a little traction and clawed its way all the way to the top - that just made my weekend.

I used to have those same tires and they were down right scary in the snow. I did not like them at all for icy/snowy travel.

Well now.... Just realized that this whole fiasco was my fault. It would seem as though I forgot to locktite the bolts when I took my front end apart back when I rebooted my CV axles. :/


So far, I'm in it for over $1100.00.... and the fender isn't replaced/painted yet. :/

It cost me $585.00 for the 107km tow, and I had a shop replace the balljoint, and damaged CV axle while I was in Oba this week.

I'm going to take a good look at the truck today, and see what else I need to replace to get my old girl looking like new again... but it really pains me to see it like this.

Took my moms 4runner out off roading for the first time in its life. Very impressed with the 4runner in stock form. Didn't do anything hardcore, but had fun nonetheless. Took my co-pilot, Shelby with me.
