This past Saturday I tried to take the wife and dogs up into the snow where I went last weekend to poke around. Having been there, I knew the terrain and knew I had cellphone coverage along the whole trail, and the physical ability to walk to civilization if anything went wrong.
Anyway, I aired down to 8psi and crashed into the snow. About 5 feet in, I sank. And that's where I rested, haha. I guess the weight of my wife, dogs, and extra equipment was too much. I was sitting on my skid plates with ZERO traction to any wheel.
As I was beginning to jack the wheels up to put branches under them a Hummer H2 came by and offered to pull me out, so I got out my snatch strap, walked him through how it worked, and hopped in my 4Runner. He took ALL of the tension out of the strap and spun all 4 of his 37" Toyo MT's on the icy road, digging 4 little 1" deep holes in the ice. He didn't want to try again, so I unhook the strap and thanked him. He tried to take off, but spun all 4 of his 37" Toyo MT's on the icy road. He was COMPLETELY stuck, haha. I put the strap back on his hitch and gave him a pull by hand, which was enough to get him some traction.
With his new found lack of confidence he offered to try to pull me out again. I walked him through how the straps worked AGAIN, and he popped me right out. Much easier than what I was going to do, and it came with a good laugh.
Here are some pics...
(Where my terrier is standing in the second pic you can see where my skid plates flattened the snow right in front of her. I didn't make it far, haha...
