3rd gen tacoma features prelude to 6th gen 4runner?

3rd gen spy photo of the Tacoma.

the biggest take away from this spy photo is the head lights. they look like the 4runner assembly, but with an added daytime led running lights on the top leading edge.

I wonder if this will be added to the next gen 4runner.

hmmm now that I look at this more, I could be completely off. I am thinking this is a spy shot of a hi lux instead of a true Tacoma.

but I have heard they are trying to merge more of the hi lux into the Tacoma to save costs.

anyone care to chime in a set me straight?


edit: the XM shark fin gives it away that this could be the new Tacoma. not sure if other countries have the shark fin, but its in an odd location though.

That picture has been floating around the intertubes for several months now. I think the general consensus is that it's a Hilux, not a Tacoma.

Agreed, looks to follow the nose design of the Hilux.

It just doesn't have that "big rig" grill that we are so partial to here in the States.

I think Toyota has lost their way, but it looks like Ford gets it:

It has a solid rear axle, locking transfer case with a low range, Terrain Management System has settings for street, sand, and snow, as well as throttle responses paired to torque vectoring and of course hill control and even an electric locking rear diff. Fitted with the same 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo-assisted four-cylinder used in the Ford Fusion, it will also be made available with a 3.2-liter five-cylinder turbo diesel. The diesel will be offered with a real six-speed manual transmission or the current six-speed automatic transmission used in the F-150 truck. At roughly the size of the Explorer, it is a good size for proper off-road pursuits. It even appears to have good approach and departure angles.

It likely won't make it to the US, but it appears to be the closest thing to replacing a 4Runner. And thank you Ford for still making manual transmissions!!!
