3rd Gen Toytec BOSS kit

Right on, for some reason when people say NorCal I know they mean the Bay Area but I always think more like eureka area lol!...modoc trail? I'm going to look it up, I love southern Oregon/ California border area it's such beautiful country!!
Yeah man look it up, I'm looking for more people to go as well so if you like it your welcome to tag along. There's a thread I made about it on this site with the details.

My buddy has the soft front eibacks and is stiff as hell compared to my ome setup. In the dirt is just rough. I don't see how everyone says they ride so smooth.

can you elaborate a little more on his setup? ive always heard nothing but good things about the boss and toytec coilover kits especially the boss coilovers (although they are close to the same with the exception of shock valving).

What weight spring does he have? and your setup is much smoother softer? what exactly are you setup with?

I'm curious because I want a lift suitable mostly for street ride comfort mainly and offroad is just a bonus.

Toytec Boss Lift installed last week

Last week I installed the Boss lift on my 97 LTD. I opted to do the UCAs as well which took the majority of the time but was important. The CVs would def suffer without the upgraded UCAs. Very happy with the ride and stability. Upper ball joints were the worst part, they were tough to get out. Tried the ball joint press but in the end brute hammering force won the battle. Highly recommend the extended brake lines too.

The lift looks good but does have the 1" gap on the ARB bumper to body due to the body lift install. New paint will aid in hiding that, and I might even add welded panel to close the gap. Need 33s and new wheels to finish the look.

Next up: Tundra brake upgrade, new paint, Warn 8000S install, sport hood, sliders, upgraded skid plates, rear bumper upgrade, air box mod.

For sale: Duratrac 265/75/16 w/ wheels-about 25K on tires, OEM UCAs, OEM 97 headlights, tail lights and corner lights, OEM running boards, OEM front coilovers, rear coils/bilstein shocks(55K on all of them).

Wanted: Sport hood

A few shots during the lift install. Biggest hassle was the UCA ball joints. The press we used didn't end up working. We cut out the ball joints and used hammering and lubrication to get the old ball joints out. The coilover and UCA install was not difficult. The body lift also was quite easy. Rear coils needed a spring compressor and some force to get into place. Rear shocks went in ok but the pax side top nut was a tough angle to work on! Diff drop, panhard bar drop, bump stop extensions, and brake line extensions were straight forward.

This mod was straight forward (I received some great assistance from an experienced welder who has extensive 4wheel mod background) and will certainly make me feel better about winching. The original endcaps were weak and held in by a small nut and bolt! Toughest part was using the force of two people to manhandle the bumper onto the brackets. ARB's engineering specs are tight!

This is after the lift, ARB bumper (with end cap mod), and 285s with new Tundra 17" wheels. I do get rubbing in reverse on the forward portion of the running boards. The portion that rubs is easily trimmed. I may elect to remove them and install sliders but for now the wife and daughters appreciate having the assist to get in!

I got me the boss lift as well finished installing it a couple weeks ago and then the problems unraveled. Cv boots were leaking so did stretch the boot and stopped leaking, ended up just replacement the cvs anyways just to have new. Now the driver side pops/slips every left turn I make. Also when I checked the height of the lift (center of hub to fender) I’m reading 24.5” and I’ve done some research and everyone says that it should be 22.5”-23” but these haven’t been adjusted since the delivered height of 2.5” added lift. Maybe I’m too high? I’m not sure what the deal is. What did your lift come out to be? Center of hub to fender height?

I just put these coilovers on mine a couple of weeks ago and one (driver's side I think) was set to like 3.5". You should adjust it to where you want it.

But seems to me mine is at 4.5”? Seems way too high in general. I couldn’t do a control reading with stock cuz my old setup was toast, so never really sat right anyways. I’m pretty sure firestone messed up my alignment too

Just measure from the center of the wheel hub to the bottom of the fender. 20" seems to the be the accepted measurement for a stock 4R, so if yours is truly lifted 4.5" then you should see 24.5".

So I adjusted mine down to 23” and my clicking has stopped when I turn left. More curious as to why, if it comes out of the box as a 2.5” lift, why was mine 4.5”-5” of lift? Maybe I just need to go hit the trail to get the suspension to settle. I did notice when I jacked it up recently the front end stayed relatively taller. Which might of been my additional lift? I dunno. Learning this lift stuff as I go

Anyone have insight or reviews on this front kit? I wanna know how they compare to 2.5 coilovers like the Kings.

Toytec Lift TTBOSSRES-9602 Installed

Just finished installing the Toytec 3 inch lift on my 2000 TFR. The front coilovers are adjustable and are factory preset at about a 2 1/2 inch lift. The rear coils are not adjustable and are 3 inch lift. The reservoirs on both the front and back can be placed either verticle or horizontal. There was nothing in the installation instructions. The metal hangars need a little more engineering and customizing to fit correctly. Toytec includes a selftapping bolt for the hangar but it did not look strong enough to me, so I ran a short bead to make sure. Right now, I am in a stink bug look as I am checking to see if the rear settles. The ride is great. I will be back with some pics.:hatsoff:

What are your thoughts on how this kit rides as compared to the stock setup.
More pics too...

Will echo wildroot's observations with the hangers....wasn't a big fan of how they work but they do work and I am sure they will be fine. We just put the same kit on our '98. Ride is miles better than it was but we replaced a stock suspension that was very tired so I am sure even the cheapest autozone shocks would have been a huge upgrade. Overall, very happy with the kit and the folks at toytec...they were super helpful.

Just wondering how others ride, and what lift you got...
I had to crank my coilovers way up to get 3" of lift. The ride before and after cranking them up seems quite stiff...Not unbearable (well almost unbearable) just stiffer than I would have imagined. I'm on 600red springs. with bumper and winch so I guess that's why the diminished lift, but anyway, just wondering what others are seeing. Also seems I got way more than 3" in the back. I think I measured like 26.5" in the rear. Was expecting more like 25" That's with a 2" body lift.

I did just put this kit on, and haven't really givin it time to settle in. So I guess I should do that first.

Does cranking the coils up further make them stiffer? if so, does Toytec make a top spacer for the coilovers? To get that little extra lift without having to crank the coils way up?

I also replaced all my bushings with Poly front and rear so that may contribute to what I feel in the seat of my pants. Also I read that the coils need to break in, and may be a little stiff until they do. But first impressions are Very Stiff.

I don't really see any articulation from the front over bumps or on uneven surfaces at all. Just seem really stiff. Maybe I should have chosen a 550 spring but the weight of my rig already compresses the springs a bit. So IDK, I'll drive it some more and report back.

Would love to hear more on what you find alanflies. Was considering the TTBOSSRES-9602 or a set of Kings for the 4Runner. Did you adjust the setting on the front reservoirs so that it was the softest?

JC

Honestly, I'm really happy with the kit as a whole. I hope I didn't sound like I was bashing the kit. Just seems really Firm to me. maybe more firm than I had in mind. I would buy the kit again.

I have the adjusters all the way to the - side of the +- dial.
I haven't really had time to drive the thing much yet, and I haven't gotten my alignment yet either, although it's pretty close. I have been reading that this kit is firmer than the factory stuff and that's what it feels like so far. I guess I really just wanted to know from others if they felt the Boss Res system Ride is really firm compared to what they had, or if I'm just crazy.

I have also read the Kings or Icons are way firmer than the stock stuff too, so this kit may be doing exactly what it's supposed to do.
