3rd Gen Window Tint

Hey guys I'm looking to tint the front windows of my '99 4runner. I want it to match the middle/rear windows which have the factory tint. Anyone know the percentage tint of the factory?

Also, does anyone know how much a timing belt should cost? I had mine replaced by the dealer and I think I got charged a little too much. I would have done it myself but I was going into the field and it was more convenient to have them do it.

just the timing belt is $220 but they advise you to replace all of the drive belts and the water pump too which adds up to over $500. Thats at my dealer.

best thing to do is go to a tint place and see what matches best. i ended up using LLumar bronze tint. from what i was told it was 15%, which i ended up getting a ticket for it. also you might wanna check your local laws as far as tint %.

I went with 50% on my fronts. It gives a nice blend from the rear to the front and you will never get pulled over.

fyi, factory is about 20%

I just got my Fronts tinted this weekend. The tint place told me that 15% would match the front...sure enuff they were dead on. Fronts and rears are identical.

that's great that you guys are all listing the percentage of your tint, 5% or 15% or whatever, but I think a more important question is not to ask what percentage but what's the actual film brand and type that you're choosing to go with.

And you're making this point on a 4 year old thread because...

i did a search for "tint" under 3rd gen and there were only like 2 posts that came up.

by the way thank you for your very helpful post, i wish to subscribe to you.

also, people are always posting how they are getting 5% all around or putting 15% on the factory shaded windows and then putting 5% over on top of the 15% but nobody ever talks about the actual brand name, you know what I'm talking about or no? :bash:

As long as the tint is of a good quality the brand doesn't really matter. Sure different brands 20% might be a little different, but it's not a huge deal.

Two points:

The search engine here is awful. There are probably a gazillion threads about tint, but you will never find them. I know I can't find half the stuff I'd like to...

And two, I agree, majority of threads I come across about tint only refer to the percentage of tint that each user has, rather than include the brand name too. However, each brand is going to be really close to the other. You're not going to see a huge difference between manufacturers who both produce 20% tint.

Again, I understand you want to know more about the brands people have (not just the percentages), but simply posting this thought in a 4yr old thread is not really going to do you much good.

You could always start a new thread and ask people to post which brand and percentage tint they have. Maybe aks for some photos too. Doubt you'll see much difference though...
