3rd row seat owners

I am after 3 long years of being without a 4runner looking to get one this week. The one i am looking at has the 3rd row seating but is a v8 and close, that sort of new work schedule dosnt allow much for traveling for a truck. My question is how is it living with the 3rd row thing? Can they be removed when not in use? Over all is it worth picking up or hold out for non 3rd row? Thanks

They can be removed fairly easy. Wife insisted on a third row model, we've not used the third row once yet though. It is not comfortable for an adult for any long trips. I figured we might use it for kids and their friends, which still may happen, as my kids are still young.

I have three kids. 9, 12, 14. I would have less kids if I didnt have third row. They have to be separated or they will annoy me to the point of murder. The seats are easy to stow or remove. Not sure what your price range is but 3rd row is standard in the lexus version of the 4runner, the lexus gx470. They cost just as much and sometimes less as a similarly equipped 4runner limited. If you can swing the extra cash, upgrade to a 2010+ gx 460 (the newest generation). Those have fold flat third row. Happy hunting!

I love having the 3rd row. It literally takes 60 seconds to fully remove them and then you have the exact same cargo room as a non 3rd model. Another nice perk is the reclining 2nd row. The only very minor draw back is when the 2nd row is tumbled forward, the floor is not flat in that area.
I have 3 and 5yo kids. The convertible booster seat easily fits in the 3rd row when I have extra adults to haul around plus the kids, but the convertible reverse facing infant seat will not fit. Currently I have the 3yo in the 2nd row and the 5yo in the 3rd row to keep them apart and reduce the fights, haha.
Any one over 5ft tall will find them too cramped for any trip longer than 15 mins.

Right on you all. I think i go take a look at it saturday and see if was well maintained. Then its 4runner time.

The third row has gotten me out of a pinch in a couple of occasions that I had kids and family from out of town.
Not comfortable at all if you are over 4 foot I'd say, and you don't get air going back there, so it will take a while to get comfy.
When not in use I can "stow'hang" them onto sides, or just remove them and keep them in my garage.
