3rd row seating, difficult 2 get?

Hi,

I'm now ready to buy a 4Runner, but it seems like all my local dealers are telling me that the options I want are not available.

I would prefer a v6 4x4 sport with 3rd row seating, but I guess the sport can't be had with the extra seats.

So I downgraded to the SR5 and they now tell me that these are also hard to get. What's the deal here? Why are these things listed as options but no dealers apparently are ordering the cars with them?

Any suggestions on how to locate what I'm looking for? Is ordering from the factory a worthwhile pursuit, or will that just take months of waiting?

If you want to have X-REAS and third row seats, you can option the two together on the Limited.

Third row seats isn't a very popular option in my region, maybe like one out of 10 or less. Try putting in your zip code on Buyatoyota.com, it'll show you what the typical configurations are for your region.

Special ordering will take about three months to get exactly what you want provided that the dealer is willing to put the order through. Some dealers will charge MSRP on a special order. You might need to shop around for a dealer that won't gouge you for a special order.

I am a new 4R owner and the collection of options that I was looking for was supposedly difficult to find. I tried all my local dealers and no one had what I was looking for. So, I widened my search and finally found my 4R.

Don't give up. You should be able to find the exact 4R you are looking for (as long as you can configure it that way on Toyota's main website.)

The dealerships in my area told me that they couldn't order me a vehicle (which I think is a load of BS), but there are some people on this forum who have been able to special order from Toyota through a dealership. It takes a while and you may have a problem negotiating the price, but it is possible based on what I have read here.

Hope this helps. Good Luck! :)

I've had my share of troubles finding what I want, also. Last week, I decided I would go ahead and get a 4runner. I looked, but there was no dealer in the area with a Limited V8 4x4 Xreas Titanium. I live in the Phoenix area, and checked with every dealership, probably about 10 of them. Then I checked at a couple down in Tucson, then a couple in Vegas. No go. Unbelieveable! Now I'm just going to wait and keep checking now and then.

I am also in Phoenix and you are going ot have a hard time finding one with a 3rd row seat. When I was looking there was only 1 with a 3rd row at all the dealers. Good luck!

I've found one 350 miles away

Well someone has located one with 3rd row seating 350 miles away from where I live. I'd jump on it right away except that it is in one of the colors that I didn't want. Apparently this is the only one similarly configured in the whole state.

How often do new shipments arrive? Would it be stupid to let this one go in the hopes of another arriving within the next few weeks?

One of the dealers I talked to says that it would take about 6 weeks if I ordered one. Does that sound realistic, or is it just wishful thinking in order to get me locked into leaving a deposit?

Thanks, Derek

This is similar to my fiasco. I wanted a V8 4x4 Sport with a sunroof in Shadow Mica. There are two cars in my region that come close to that description, one black and one red -- neither of which colour I'm interested in. I ended up pushing an order through the dealer and am waiting until mid-to-late March. I guess it works out, though, as I'll be overseas on vacation from the end of Feb through mid-March..

That sounds pretty quick compared to the amount of time special orders took a few other members on this board. My understanding is that it all depends on how long your truck is stuck in holding waiting until your particular option group comes up. 6 weeks is probably the fastest it could happen.

I have an 06 T4R Limited w/ the 3rd row seats. I didn't really want the xreas since I have planned to install an OME lift from the start which would eliminate that system. Wasn't actually even looking for the 3rd rows, but the truck had the side air bags, nav, and was the color I wanted (Nautical Blue). Even though I pulled out the third rows the first day I had the truck and installed the Weathertech cargo liner I am very happy to have gotten the third row seats. With this option the second row seats can be reclined pretty far back which has been very popular with passengers in the back seat!

If you want the 3rd row seat, GET IT NOW. We didn't get them and just figured we would buy them later for our '06.....Big mistake. We went to get them and the dealership wants $2000.00 per seat. do the math.....$850 option now, or $4000 after the fact. Good Luck.

Six weeks waiting for an order is fast. It takes about four weeks for the truck to ship from Japan to the US. If that's the case the truck is probably in an allocation heading to your regional distributor and could be diverted from one dealer to yours. My region gets an allocation every two weeks. If you're flexible and your dealer is hesitant to order, give them a list of colors your prefer and options. Maybe they can find a truck that isn't exactly what you want, but very close. This way you can avoid waiting as long and possibly still get a better deal, unless your dealer doesn't care we

If you want the third row, definately get it as a factory option. It would be really expensive and a lot of work (if it even can be done) to add it later, as two row and three row seating trucks have different second rows and cargo area panels.
