3vez block problem...please help!!!

Long story short, my V6 started knocking yesterday, so I have it pulled aprt now. Found out that a rod broke, my crank is bent by 50 thousandths of an inch, and my block is cracked. :bash: to say the least, not very good news.

What i wanted to have done is get my pistons bored out .30, etc, as well as a port and polish job. But since the crank is bent, I now don't know what to do.

I have searched all over to find performance upgraded short blocks, to find out that they want $4,000 and up for one. F&*k that.

So my question is does anyone know where I can get a rebuilt short block with bored out pistons, etc? Or even just getting a new crank, whcih I heard is very expensive to buy outright...:confused:

I hate to say it, but try ebay. I am going through the same problems as you at the moment. I need the crank turned in mine and new bearings. I just bought a fresh rebuilt motor with zero miles, but it had a knock in it. I paid $450 for the complete motor new clutch wires t-belt reworked heads ect. I drained the oil and half of it was anti freeze. I opened up the bottom and found the #1 connecting rod cap was broken and I am not sure about the crank, pistons or the block now. :bash: These V6 motors seem to be a pain. I should have just dropped it off and paid the 3k and got my 2 year warranty. I'll pull the heads and pistons tomorrow and check out the block to see where the water came in at. I thought I had a good deal until I saw that atifreeze. :( I know what you are going through.
 
These rebuilt 3vz's are not very reliable. Because the aftermarket bearings are crap! I had a 3vz with over 250,000 miles and i didn't have a problem with it.

Your probably better off getting a used motor from a salvage yard.

I have priced many used motors and they are worth gold. There is no way I would pay $12-1400 for a used motor with 150k or more on it. I am pulling my motor this weekend and getting the crank turned and a new bearing kit ($150). While I have it out I will do the oil pump, wp, T-belt kit and clutch. The motor I bought was total junk. Two bad rods and pistons, heli coiled head bolts, crank turned to the max and a cracked sleeve on #2. This was a fresh rebuild by a real loser. There was gasket seal between the new head gaskets and I removed all the rod cap nuts with my fingers with the exception of #1 (it removed it self). Not sure where you are located, but over on the coast there are no old 4runners or trucks because they all got exported by car dealers. Wish I could find a good used motor for a fair price, but no luck here.
 
I'm in houston. I donno about the place you bought that motor from, but around here they run for $900-$1000 with about 60K miles.

Like i said My old motor had over 250,000 miles and it still ran good, I just needed more power for towing!

That's a great price on a motor. I wish there were some around here for that price. Like I said all older Toyotas near a coast got exported. I even had to travel 600 miles to get mine after a year of looking. They are just all gone around here.
 
When dealing with older vehicles I always like to buy a parts vehicle. Sometimes it's hard to find them but they always pay off.

I haven't picked up a parts 4runner yet since I've only had mine for 2 weeks but I've already started the hunt.

I'll tell you about my chevy tracker though. I found a parts tracker for $300 bucks, the front end was smashed in on one side. So far I've taken both front seats, the gas tank and fuel pump, the e-brake cables and the engine.

I also use the wheels for winter tires. In the fall and spring I just pull all the tires off both trackers and swap them.

The engine was the most money saving. Scrap yards ask around $1000 for old engines.

When it comes to 4runner you'll probably pay a little more but I still think it's worth it.
 
I picked up a parts 4Runner right outside of Tampa on Saturday. 124k miles and ran fine. Just got hit kind of hard in the rear. Anyone need parts? :D

Everyone is looking for rear window parts.

I've made one attempt at fixing mine. It was only partially successfull. I was able to make it go down but it doesn't go all the way up without help.

The only parts 4runner I've looked at was a 1990 SR5 V6 with all the options. Mine is a 4 cyl with manual everything so I wouldn't be able to get many parts off of it.

The rear window didn't work on it either.

I'm looking at putting together a DIY for rear window repairs on these things but all of my time is being eaten by my Chevy Tracker right now so it'll have to wait.
