3VZ-E Questions/Problems

I have a couple questions on the 3VZ-E in my 93.

1. My fan is very wobbly and it squeaks like hell at idle. Is that the fan clutch that's bad??

2. The engine takes about 3-5 miles of freeway 65mph driving in the morning to warm up to the point where the trans will shift into 4th. Is this normal??

3. My idle is unpredictable. I set the idle screw on the TB to about 750-800 rpms at warm up idle no A/C, but on certain days, it will drop down to around 200 and sometimes stall out. What the hell is that all about??

Maybe a little help

2. mine does the same thing i'm also curious i take it that you have an Auto tranny as well. i typically shift a few times in my drive way to help it, but an acctual fix if something is wrong would be nice.

3. adjust the idle so that when it is warmed up in park it will idle around 1100, because it is an auto tranny it needs to be higher than a manual, because the clutch is internal (accordind to my dad, who's never been wrong about vehicles to date) when it is warmed up and idleing at 1100 shift into reverse or drive, and stay on the brake it should drop to 750-800.

I hope this helps

1) You may need a new fan bearing bracket. I had to replace mine at 182k. It is a bearing behind the pulley behind the fan clutch. Best bet is to remove your belts and see what is loose.

2. I know that the auto trans has a sensor where it won't let it shift into 4th until it's warm. But my question is what is the average time that takes.

3. Thanks for the info. I adjusted the idle again today and I'll see what happens.

1. You wouldn't happen to know anything about my wobbling fan issue?

My 4Runner was actually in an accident before so would that label anything as the culprit?

Unless the shaft of the fan was bent in the accident - front end damage? I would still check for play in the pulley behind the fan.

BTW, really jealous of your rust free 'Runner.

Thanks for the info.

The no rust is just a perk of living in southern California.

The only cars I have that are rusted are my 58 and 59 Edsels. They're from the the east coast though haha
