3vz overheating

My 3vz started steaming, and there was a hissing sound coming from the back of the block. Coolant level is fine, I cant see any coolant in my oil, anyone have a similar problem? What else should I check?

Granted I'm running a 3rd gen but my upper radiator hose gets hot and the bottom is cool, no matter what the temp outside is.

Does it overheat while idling or driving? Or both?

If just idling, the fan might not be drawing enough air.

Are you sure that the radiator is full of coolant?
 
Could be the sensor pod gasket or the hose clamp cant hold the pressure of the overheat. That is where the hissing might be coming from. If the head gasket was going or went you would see a plume of white smoke out the exhaust.

Just found out the problem, the hose going from the back of the block to the heater core had a small tear in it. $15 from my local toyota dealer, and I get it tomorrow morning.

Thought you weren't losing coolant? :shrug::shrug::shrug:
 
Sweet I figured that would be it. It was also probably burning most of the coolant that did get out on the exhaust crossover thats why you didn't see anything. My hose for the sensor pod did the same thing only mine completely blew apart on the road.
 
That hose costs $5 at your local parts store, I pulled mine off took it to the counter they came back with the exact hose size, shape and cut. Good luck with the replacing it's tight back there.
 
So this did not fix the problem actually. It was still overheating, so I replaced the Tstat, flushed the system, and got a new radiator cap, and now the coolant tank is boiling. I'm pretty sure it's a blown HG
 
Dude GET A NEW RADIATOR. Mine was doing the same thing, boiling and overflowing. I put in a new radiator and VOILA, she runs perfect. Check your oil for coolant and coolant for oil. If you see either one contaminated then you have a HG problem. Also when you crank your rig up you'd see tons of white smoke.

Trust me, get a new radiator, I think I paid 180 at Advanced for it.
 
I would look into the radiator. Much cheaper. I have a family friend that gets me great deals on parts. I think i paid like $800 for the gasket set and then 27 hours of work. Needless to say it was a shi**y weekend 'home'.... i spent it all at the shop fixing my truck and didn't sleep much. I did get very intimate with my truck though haha, a ton of time, sweat, blood, and tears happened that weekend.

complete gasket set man, tearing an engine apart that pretty much overheated and then ran with the headgasket blown for awhile. needed to redo all the gaskets from the head gasket on up.

i wanna say the gasket set was like 300 i think
i also got a lot of other stuff too

So now the gauge is wavering between the middle and right before the red. Driving on the highway it would read in the middle, on normal roads it would waver
