4:10 vs 4:30

I recently bought an e-locker rear end from a 2000 limited and wanted to do the swap in my 01 sport(3'' toytec lift with 33'' tires), just wondering what gear ratio i should stick with and if regearing would cost alot to do. I believe my stock gears is 4:10 and the 2000 rear end is 4:30. will running different ratios affect my truck if i didnt regear? also would getting the front diff just be a better choice instead.

Running different gears is bad. Very bad.

Best choice will be to find a matching front diff as it will be MUCH cheaper than re-gearing the rear.

i can still get the front diff from the same 4runner i got the rear end from, are all the diffs the same no matter what year?

I believe that the 2000 utilizes a vacuum actuator, and the 2001 an electric actuator. You can simply remove the actuator on the 2000 and replace it with the one from your 2001. Make sure you seal it well.

I am fairly confident that's the only difference.

I would make sure you check your gear ratio though before swapping anything. Perhaps save yourself some time and $$.

I bought a locker from a 2000 limited with 4.30 gears and got the front diff. I like the 4.30 gears better. If you mix gears it will bind and break stuff.
