I own a 2004 4.7 v8 awd/4wd 4runner. Im having an issue with the awd /4wd system I think. When im driving in snow or rain my 4runner pulls hard. Im not sure what the problem is. I just got an alignment on it thinking that would help but it didnt solve my problem. Has anyone else had the same issue? This problem happens in awd and 4wd mode.

All of my break calipers have been replaced. I also had a mechanic check my suspension and its good. This is why I think something is wrong with the drive system. Its like all the power switches to the wheel with least resistance and just pulls me into water or snow. I got stuck last winter 4 times, and large water puddles just pull me in, heck I have even lost some control on the highway due to moderate rainfall!

I could have sworn I looked up good reviews for the tires I currently have on my 4runner. They are fusion suv tires. After reading the reviews again I think I may need a new set of tires. I guess I didnt figure they would be a problem because they are practicly new.im thinking this is my problem.

When I first bought my 04 it had Michelin LTX ms tires. The ride was great but they were horrible with traction. I was getting stuck in maybe 2-3 inches of snow when I lived in NH. Bought new General Grabber AT2 tires and it was like a brand new truck. Decent tires will make a HUGE difference.

You might be experiencing torque steer? Rotate tires and see if it helps. I have that issue under heavy acceleration. One of my tires a had tire pull so I placed it in the back.

My tires are 265/70/17 with a max pressure of 44 psi. My tires are set at 41psi

That's too high, unless they are LT tires, you should be running them in the range of 32-37 tops. Look for the sticker in your door frame for your tire pressure. Snow performance is also reduced with higher pressures.

I see you already found your solution by getting rid of your Fuzion tires. I've never ever seen one of those get a good rating.

I rotated my tires when I got an alignment. Im confident that my tires are the culprit. Afyer reading some reviews for the tires I have I noticed some trending issues that align with my issues. Thanks for discussing this issue with me guys, I really apreciate your imput.

It's a V8 so it is AWD all the time. Do you mean only in 4Low?

He said in "both AWD and 4WD mode," so I'm assuming what he meant was that this happens whether the center diff is open (awd mode) or locked (4wd mode.)
