4.7 V8 Spark Plugs, Denso or NGK Opinions

Going to change out my spark plugs, they maybe the originals or not, won't know until I pull them and want opinions from those who have done so, especially if you have tried both brands, Denso or NGK, which do ya'll think are the better choice?

When I did them on my 03 V8 I went with NGK. Also used NGK when I recently did them on my 2011 V6.

While I've never done any dyno testing etc, IMO neither one has an advantage over the other, and considering Toyota used/uses both brands you'll be fine with either.

That's my thinking as well, but I did a search and didn't find too many topics on this subject, actually none in a brief search, most opinions are in many different topic subjects matter and none specfic to spark plugs for the V8, so I figure it would be a good topic to start before I bought my plugs and it may help others in the future to decide which to use.

I know you’ve already seen my recent SP swap but I put in “NGK (4589) IFR6T-11 Laser Iridium” and they’ve been great.

I also bought this thing- AMPRO T33338 3/8-Inch Drive by 5/8-Inch Extendable Flex Spark Plug Socket- and will send it your way if you want. Made install a breeze.

AuSeeker - there are many photos posted by people who pulled out the original plugs and found Denso on one side, and NGK on the other. From what I've seen, they both look equally used, with neither side exhibiting faster wear or misfire problems, even in long-neglected engines.

I think of those threads as an on-going contest to see which plug is better, and it seems to be a tie. So, as far I'm concerned, I'd just get whichever set is on sale.

Thanks Rex for the offer but I'll pass on the spark plug socket, I have tons of tools to do any job I'll ever need to do, maybe someone who is lacking on tools will see your generous offer and you could sent it to them, I know there're some on here that are likely lacking on tools and could use it!

Yes I agree on that all orginal plugs I've seen post on the forum looked much the same from both banks.

I did read where one member stated that on his V6 that the Densos looked much better than the NGKs but he didn't post a photo, which is one of the reasons I started this topics to see if anyone else had the same experience.

Did you ever find out what was causing your P1378 code?

Nope, but no physical issues with it at all. Intermittently comes up on my BlueDriver scanner but doesn’t seem to be causing any physical symptoms. ***knock wood***

Cylinder heads are assembled or manufactured in different plants, so one bank may have NGK and the other Denso. Really no need for special spark plug sockets, replaced quite a few 2UZ ones while working at Lexus, only needed the special ones on FWD/AWD V6 engines where the intake manifold went over the rear head.

Idle problems after changing spark plugs

Has anyone had issues with idling and stalling after changing spark plugs? I even put the ones back in and still having a problem. Read something about the ecu gets reset when the battery is disconnected and it takes a while to readjust which is cause the idling and stalling

Be aware of counterfeit spark plugs, especially from eBay. I'll create a seperate post of my experience with ordering plugs from eBay but it's very common to encounter fake iridium plugs.

When I swapped mine at around 100k it had ngk one side and denso on the other (V6). Replaced with whatever was cheapest at the time, which I believe were NGK. No issues whatsoever.
