What is your experience with the 4 cylinder engine and air conditioning? Does it cool down the cabin very good?

I got a 98 4cyl and I would usually have to turn mine down or off, got too cold, during summer in SoCal too. Occasionally the engine would surge rpms when I turned it on or it cycled and had to be careful to keep my foot on the brake when stopped.

Mine works great, almost too well as Slobo describes. I've also experienced the idle surge when stopped.

Mine is 98 with 277K on it, i go to hot humid places around 110F,, my A/C blows very nicely. To be honest not that good when idling and cabin still warm.
On the move its much better since more air cools the A/C radiator/condenser and compressor turn more.
I leave in dusty area so evaporator gets some dirt stuck in it, so the first two days in the humid city cooling was not that good, but since its humid the evaporator got sweaty and washed itself then became relatively cleaner and directly affecting cooling as better as it can get.
However if cabin is already cool i put in low and then it doesn't matter if im driving or idling.
If your A/C not that good make sure your A/C radiator/condenser is clean + your evaporator is as well.
Mine was super dirty as per photo.. cleaned it as best as i could reach.

Regards,
Samir
