4 cyl. vs. V6 ? What is SR5?

Hi guys,

I am looking for a good 4runner w/Manual transmission and came across one from 99 base model (not SR5) with 4 cylinder 4WD, manual which I haven't test driven yet.

Can anybody please explain to me what is really SR5 ?

Is 4 cylinder in 4runner enough to have some fun?

I drove some V6 and they were pretty cool, will I feel underpowered with 4 cylinders?

A 4 cyl with a manual transmission is similar to driving a v6 with an auto transmission. If you rev high, you can get the power. I found myself downshifting a fair amount on hills, but the power was always there.

A 4 cyl with an automatic transmission would be horrible.

SR5 is simply a trim package. Nice things like AC, power windows, etc are included

I guess I have a horrible vehicle then. But, if I don't know what I'm missing (manual trans. and 3.4 liter) then I'm ahead of the game, right? One other thing. In the owners' manual, my 4th gear on my auto trans. is taller (the ratio is lower) then the 5th gear in a manual. So, I do get better mileage in top gear anyway.

Granted, I do have power issues on the freeway, but I'm not all about going 80+ MPH. I prefer to get the best MPG out of my '97 with 190k mileage 'Runner. I am comfortable at 65-70 and revving 2300-2600 rpms.
