4 Runner Decision - HELP?

Need your help people, I'm looking at three 4 Runners. Need to see which one is the best deal.

1. 2006 SR5 (Silver) 4X2 - 17,500K Miles (Asking $23,795) Noteealer will not budge on his price at all!!!

2. 2006 SR5 (Black) 4X4 - 31,000K Miles (Asking $22,995) Noteealer is willing to work with me on price.

3. 2007 SR5 (White) 4X2 - 15,700K Miles (Asking $23,995)

I really don't need the 4 wheel drive but we do plan on going on some camping trips and would like to know I have it in case we need it but something I really don't need in the long run.

Which one has the higher resale? The 4X2 or 4X4?

Thanks for any input. I've looked at so many 4 Runners and prices and miles I have a headache.

Well, let's see, since I won't buy any SUV/Truck in 2WD platform, I'd say #2 would be the only choice left. If you can get the dealership to get down to $22k Out The Door, that would be a great price. See if they bite on that. Is it a V6? I prefer the new 4.0L V6's to V8's. Timing chain being the biggest reason, as well as selectable 2WD/4WD modes.

You will generally hit a broader market with a 4WD. Which means better resale value. You will not regret going with a 4WD. The first time you "NEED" it, it will have paid for itself two, three, millionth fold. The price difference is not that much anyway. Might as well get it.

Correct me if i'm wrong but i've heard the 4x4 has the higher resale. Then again, when i was looking it was like 4x4 tack on some money, 4x2 lose some money; so it didn't feel to me like one kept it's value more.

I would have to say option 2 as well. I will only buy a 4x4 for myself, my wife wanted 2wd on the Rav4.

I vote for #2 too, especially if it's the V6. Where do you live? That does play into the 4wd thing some.

Determine which of the 3 was a private vehicle, which of the 3 was a rental and which one was on a high mileage 1 year lease. The rental was beat but had an oil change or three, the 1 year salesman lease car probably did not and the private vehicle was probably the least abused and best cared for...

Of course I am not saying that it works exactly like this but do try to get an idea of which one was cared for and not abused. I am hopeful (for you) it was the black 4wd and the Black one has a V6

I did find another one online at a dealer in Maryland. I live in NC. It's a 2006 4Runner Sport 4X4 (31K Miles) They are asking $23,863 and they will drive it down to me to do the paperwork.

I love the way the Sport looks with the hood and the wheels. Does that sound like a pretty good price?

If the selling dealer is in NC and a licensed dealer that's a good thing. The "2. 2006 SR5 (Black) 4X4 - 31,000K Miles (Asking $22,995) Note dealer is willing to work with me on price" vehicle sounds right if the come down to a $22k or $22.5k out the door price.

I'm actually looking at the gray one in Maryland. The dealer is in Maryland and they would drive down to NC. That one is a sport but how does the price look for the sport. I've looked at so many my brian is fried and want to make sure I'm getting a good deal?

I live in Greenville NC. I'm really interested in the Sport Edition in Maryland but just a little nervous since it's so far away and they are willing to drive it down to me to do the transaction. I hate for them to drive it all the way down and then I not like the color or something about the truck when it's hear and decide not to buy it. Could be something wrong with it that they have not told me over the phone. Not entirely sold on the color also, wasn't my first pick but hard to find a SE around here. I found one in Charlotte but when I called someone was already driving it and it looked like he was going to pucharse it. That was the color Silver.

How many people have regretted NOT getting 4wd, even if they thought they would never need it or use it.

You'll probably have a harder time selling a non-4wd 4Runner down the road because most people want 4wd, but that may depend on the region. I'm sure that 2wd 4Runners outsell 4wd 4Runner in Florida, but in my area, it's very hard to find a 2wd 4Runner on a dealer's lot. And I've heard that its all but impossible to buy a 2wd 4Runner in Canada. Maybe some Canadian 4Runner owners can comment on that...

If you're a soccer dad or mall crawler I'd say stick with the 4X2 versions. If you'd like to see some mud splatter all over the sides of your truck, afterwards taking a dive into a 1' deep river crossing, and to finish it off getting yourself unstuck from any stuck situation by locking the C-Diff while in 4LO... get the 4X4 "Sport Edition". Keep in mind the SE's beefier brakes will out perform the wimpy SR5's anyday.

If you are planning on going offroad, 4x4 is a must. Out of those, my 1st choice is the sport (getting the most updated 4Runner). My 2nd choice is #2 in your first post. Good luck with your decision!

That gray one is the EXACT vehicle I am looking for (gray sport model with lower miles). I'd be all over a 4x4 for resale purposes. I don't think the difference you gain in gas mileage is worth the amount you'd lose in resale if something were to come up and you'd need to sell it.

Have you done a carfax on them? It might be a good idea. I've been running quite a few the last few weeks as I search for a car. I've already found 2 salvaged 4Runners that weren't disclosed. Guys were trying to pull fast ones. I would have bought either of them if I hadn't know as they looked perfect and had the features I wanted.
