It is road legal (at least in Canada it is), and thats the best part! It has a 1.7L 4cyl VW gas engine, and a very early version of Audi's Quattro. The entire drivetrain is bulletproof. Also very easy to work on and do maintenance. I wheel mine aggressively on a regular basis for the last 6 years and haven't broken anything yet, and thats the norm for these vehicles.
Drive to the trail, drive on the trail, and make it back home. What more could you want?!

Prior to the 4Runner I had a 2006 Saab 9-3 Aero with a 2.8 turbo V6 tuned to 330hp and 400tq. It was a wild ride but something was always broke.

And it's current garage mate is my boyfriend's 03 Jetta. It's always got something for me to tinker on. Keeps me from buying another junker to fix up!
