I have been looking and can't find any info that BMW uses GM transmissions, I have come across a few thing that says BMW uses them but no information regarding what models

I do not know. I have heard the same thing. However, i know for sure that the new 6-speed auto tranny is NOT GM; but it is shared among Jaguar and Audi. SMG on M-cars is BMW-exclusive.

BMW Auto Transmissions

The 5-speed auto tranny used with six-cylinder engines is GM-sourced and produced in France. At one point, I had the url for a GM web site with full specs for this transmission. Alas, I can no longer find it. I believe the earlier 4-speed used in the 6 cyl cars was also GM-built, but I'm not sure of that.

The automatic transmission used for the V-8 BMWs such as the 540i is a completely different unit, sourced from ZF and built in Germany.

Try going to www.roadfly.org and navigating to one of the BMW forums for more info.

Thanks for the info I have always heard it but just wanted to confirm it with some solid info

It's pretty cool a trans from GM put in BMW runs fine and without no problems, but many of the midsize chevys have trans problems

Oh Yeah Thai, I highly doubted the M3 was using the GM trans:50cal:

The transmission for the M3 is made by Getrag. They make transmissions for alot of manufactors, including GM
