$445 for timing belt, waterpump, t-state, fluid flush?

Should I avoid this place? It's a japanese repair shop, nearly 5 stars on yelp with over 50 reviews. been around town for ages.... the guy quoted me $445. seems awfully cheap.

having my lower ball joints done by another japanese repair place around the corner for $370 today. glad to get those done finally.

I'm guessing they are using the cheapest parts they can find.

I'd go somewhere else.

It's not bad if it's labor only with you providing the OEM parts... If parts are included in price, I would avoid, personally.

I would try yourmechanic.com. Probably cheaper and you can order your own OEM parts or request them and make sure what they use. Plus they come to your house, work, etc.

I've used them and recommended to friends with great results. Just have to check reviews of the mechanics and be patient, it's not the dealer, can't just expect them to be catering to you schedule wise. They get booked up quick.

I've supplied my own parts but if the quote lists good stuff go with theirs just verify it when they arrive.

They should, some don't and some do but charge a higher labor rate. If you select "I'll supply parts" It'll go down significantly but you lose the warranty. You could try calling them and seeing if you can verify the parts before they get them or tell them to order that kit so you can still get the warranty. I have not tried this.

Genuine Thermostat and belts in addition. No reason to get "Genuine Toyota" bearings and all that. AISIN is the supplier. The pump literally has AISIN stamped on it and the only different between the two will be the red box and Toyota stamped in a different spot.

Why the BIG price difference between the 2 kits? I didnt really take a look at the components, but whats the difference in both to make it almost half the price?

I think the other one includes more is all. And the price gap between genuine and oem. You just have to add on belts and thermostat to the lesser one.

The cheaper kit may come with a Koyo idler, which will work but the timing belt in width is wider than the pulley it rests on. The OEM kit uses the correct idler made by NSK.

Someone mentioned years back that the Aisin tensioner's range is not as great as the Toyota OEM. Since I don't have anything concrete to refute such, take it as hearsay.

BTW, it is Mitsuboshi, not bishi, as stated in the Amazon description.....

You are brave for using non-OEM cam seals.

The Aisin kit is good, don't get me wrong. Mitsuboshi makes the timing belts for Toyota anyway. The more expensive kit on Amazon is complete, but just a little high for what you get compared with the OEM kits from aircabinman on eBay. Fast shipping, great to deal with. He can custom a kit the way you need it as well. I paid $230 for mine with everything from him but the outer belts, which I had on hand. Incidentals I picked up from Camelback (oil cooler lines, woodruff key, coolant, crank pulley bolt, etc).
