Did you honestly think Romney had a chance of winning against Obama? The Republicans chose the wrong candidate to begin with. In order to win the election you don't have to appeal to the voters already on your side, you have to appeal to the ones in the middle. Romney couldn't do that so he wasn't the right choice. I knew it as soon as I started studying the guy.

If you are referring to those of us who are glad that the President was re-elected, I suggest this.
When you can't capitalize on a golden opportunity given to you due to a down economy, unemployment above that at any other election time and unlimited $$ thanks to Citizens United, you have to take a hard look at your party. That's just what a majority of America did and they didn't like what they saw.
The RNC has refused to acknowledge the changing demographics of the country. They have also refused to accept that the children of the older members don't believe in their party of exclusion. For the past couple of months I have thought that there weren't that many undecided voters out there. I believe there were undeclared. Undeclared because they didn't want to face the scorn of their family and friends. Undeclared because they didn't want to be hounded on the job. Undeclared because they didn't want to argue with their spouse.
The President won last night in part because the day of the step-ford wife is long over. Women overwhelmingly chose to not support a team that refused to answer if they supported equal pay for equal effort, or are tiring of old white men telling them what to do with their health care. He won because the RNC told the minorities in this country to shove it. He won because the white electorate (which includes me) is slowly but surely decreasing. But he also won because most people think we are finally turning the economic corner and getting back on our feet, in spite of all the efforts of 1/2 of Congress and a minority in the Senate focusing on NOTHING the past four years except beating Obama.
It was interesting to note that when a rally was held for the President, the pictures always showed inclusion of all Americans. It was never so during a Romney/Ryan rally, it appeared they could have just used the same picture for every rally. The RNC needs new, younger, more diverse blood if they ever want to get back to their "heydey Reagan" days. They need to find a way to include in the "tent" more people who didn't grow up in the 40's, 50's and 60's and are still stuck there. They need to introduce the party to the 21st century.
As I said earlier, when you can't win in a down economy, you have to take a look at your party. They were viewed decisively yesterday as the party of obstructionists, among other things...and a majority of Americans just told them to politely go away.
So while I may disagree with you on where we are headed the next four years, I respect your right to your opinion...and I think we all want what's best for this country, even though we have different ideas on how to get there.

Personally, I'm not impressed with the Republican's nominee. There are much better candidates out there than Romney. But this election to me was picking the less of two evils. How many people actually believe Barack Obama had a successful first term as President of the United States?
If you look at the facts, each and every one point to his first term being a failure. Look at the defecit, look at the national debt, look at the amount of executive orders, look at the amount of spending in general! It's disgusting that this country has been put through so much hell the last four years, and thinking that staying with this President is the better choice. I am not a fan of Mitt Romney, but I was certainly ready to be done with this failed administration and elect someone that at least knows how to make money and be beneficial to our economy.
I hope in four years, if we still make it, that there will be a candidate, either Republican or Democrat, who has our country's core values at heart. It really is a shame what is happening and anyone who actually pays attention to what is going on and what they're going to be paying for know what I'm talking about. But as long as this country continues to be split, I don't see things changing anytime soon.

All I have to say is read up on the economic, immigration and integration policies of Europe from the 1980's till now and see what happened. Then remember this conversation 20 years from now (I reduced the duration by 10 years courtesy of our economic state).
Financially this country is off worse than the "problem countries" of Europe:

With the current per capita debt already exceeding the strained eurozone countries how would you consider the thought of adding more social programs a good idea? To illustrate, the graph below (from 2009) shows the us paying comparability smaller percentages in taxes than the Euro-zone, but consider this: even with the higher taxes they can't afford the programs!

Europe has also shifted to some of the most stringent immigration controls and deportation rules on the planet because they realized that simply letting everyone in and not enforcing proper integration into the existing culture was resulting in a polarized society and an increasing racial divide.
The country made a (narrow) choice (looking at the popular vote) and regardless we'll have to deal with that choice. I just ask you to not just look at the young and female vote, but look at the history of this country. Europeans moved here because the system there wasn't working for them and built this country to be the leader of the world in politics, business and economic wealth. we are now entering the time where the children no longer know where the money came from and what it took to get it and they're spending it all. Once run out nothing will be left with nobody to provide a bail-out. Europe cant afford it and China has no reason for it.
So what about that younger generation?

In case you are wondering, the microwave you nuked your noodles in was a result of defense spending; it has implications well beyond the obvious military objective.
I moved here from Europe because at the time it still was the land of opportunity; now it's increasingly looking like Europe 2 except nobody bothered to learn the lessons of Europe 1. And opportunity is increasingly harder to find or afford.
