4Runner 2010 Trail Drive System Sheet

For me, this is how i would use the system. TRAC is for on-road all-weather use. I would not rely on it off-road. Off-road, you use A-TRAC and/or rear locker. Terrain Response or Crawl Control is good when you're in 4-HI. When you need 4-LO (aka severe terrain), i would just rely on A-TRAC and rear locker and shut everything else off. If you're not sure of yourself in terms of speed, then use CC in addition to A-TRAC and locker.

I do not think Crawl Control can be engaged in 4H. And only one of the Multi Terrain modes is available in 4H, the other 3 can only be used in 4L. Perhaps someone else can confirm; I don't have my Trail today.

Can someone put this up on Google Docs so that we can save and print this?

Thanks for taking the time to do all the work!

453030 - You are correct.

Crawl Control is only available in 4Lo as is the locking differential (and in 1st gear I think as well) and the left most position of the Multi Terrain selection knob is all that is available in 4Hi. The other three Multi Terrain choices are only available in 4Lo and involve much more of the wheel travel that the split-sway bar KDSS (designed in western Australia by KDSS PTY, Ltd. by-the-way) suspension offers. All cool stuff I'm glad to have on my TE, but in a way makes me miss my simple 1st generation 4Runner and FJ-62 Land Cruiser.

In Windows......Just right click on it and save it in your documents, and then print it if you want.He already converted it to a GIF file so you can just copy from the post.
Or PM BBB and have him e-mail you the pdf file if you need it in pdf for some reason.

Thanks BBB!

:iagree:
"sand" is the only multi-terrain select mode available in 4H. all others, including the locker, require 4L to engage.

Well, then (for me) that makes CC and TR useless. I will stick with the "old-tech" A-TRAC and rear locker. :)

This is all correct. Also, you cannot engage Crawl Control and Multi Terrain at the same time.

What's TR?
CC is great for the trails that require you to hang out the window so far you can't reach the pedals.:jump:

I confirmed you can turn off VSC and TRAC if you hold down the VSC button for 3 seconds but you have to be stationary to turn of the VSC and slow to turn off TRAC. Also tested that it doesn't turn back on by itself at speeds over 30mph (tested to 70). Tested in 2Hi and 4HI.

That makes sense: VSC & TRAC are for normal driving and should not turn OFF by themselves. It an option for the driver to disable them if stuck in mud or fresh snow by pressing the button. It will turn back ON via the button or by turning engine off, then on.

I tested the CC (Garcia Trail, CA: see picture in my signature), both going up and down, and it held low constant speed with no slipping whatsoever (did not activate A-Trac or diff lock). It would have been hard to keep such a low constant speed using gas pedal.

Oops, I meant they don't turn on when you've turned them off. Someone mentioned the Tacoma does this at 30mph.
Hold the VSC button down for 3 seconds while stationary.
