It'll happen. The current 4Runner makes no sense in Toyota's US lineup - anything it does can be done with something else they already make. I can guarantee that every single person on this board, whatever they use their truck for, could switch to a doublecab Tacoma, Lexus GX, Land Cruiser, or Highlander and not miss a beat. The Highlander and Tacoma are already killing the 4Runner on the sales floor, and I'm sure Toyota would love to see more sales of the upmarket GX and Land Cruiser.
I see one of two things happening - 4Runner will go crossover and Toyota will let it fight with the Highlander and drop whichever one loses, OR Toyota skips the redesign, drops the 4Runner, and maybe brings in the Prado. Maybe. I'm leaning towards the latter, because the 5th gen is nearing the end of it's cycle and there's been no peeps.
