4runner advertising....

I've noticed quite a few 4runner advertisements on TV over the past few weeks.

Interesting, I don't recall seeing very many (if ANY) Toyota ads pitching either the 4runner or the LC. Even the Tacoma doesn't seem to get much advertising.

My assumption has been that this is because Toyota pretty much "owns" these markets and uses their advertising $$ to sell products in areas that are more competitive (Tundra, Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Highlander, Venza, etc.)

Anyone else notice this? I wonder if it means 4runner sales are slipping and they think they need a "boost."

I've never - EVER - seen a TV ad for a Land Cruiser, that I can recall.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen a TV ad for a Sequoia, either.

I have noticed. Around here it's just local dealership ads and the "Jan" ads that pretty much tout the brand, and the general dealership experience.

I don't know what's behind it. Maybe with the discontinuation of the FJ Toyota is trying to get attention on the 4runner for the off-road enthusiast.

As for LC's, Sequoia's etc., I think they do a lot of print ads in magazines. They probably feel they can better target the soccer mom's and the more affluent among us.

I think i've seen a few sequoia commercials but zero 4runner or tacoma commercials. It depends on what the market in your area is like as well.
