4Runner broken into...

Well Sunday I woke up to find that my 4Runner had been broken into along with my wife's intrigue. The broke out the passenger window and about everything around the cd player trying to get it out. They were unable to get it out so they ended up breaking the head unit too. I'm getting my estimate on Wednesday, but I have a $500 deductible so I'm not exactly sure how its gonna shake out. I'll keep you guys posted. Here are some pics I snapped with my cell phone.

sorry to see that happen

you did not deserve that

what does someone even get for a stolen radio? It can't possibly be worth it for anyone involved.

Best of luck with the repairs. Sorry to hear they got your wife's ride as well.

Thats a bummer, most likely some drunk kids. considering they couldn't get the thing out. Sorry to hear about this.

not good i keep my 05 tacoma and my 99 4R locked but living in a town house worries me for the same reason sorry about your truck and car. :( i was even thinking about putting up a cheep cammera that hooks to my computer for that reason. :bigok:

one reason why i dont like to live in a apt or a town house. next time have a nice shotgun locked in your ride! it will scared the crap out of them.

what i would do is wait outside for the next rookie theif to come by. then hand them my keys and tell them not to mess anything else up beside the stereo.

hope your Ins. fix both your rides fast & in a timely manner. good luck!

and what would make you come to this conclusion?

I was able to have my homeowners take care of it when I had my 4runner broke into at the dealership (coils recalled). After looking at pictures of that I'm glad mine were pros. Used a slim jim and stole my change bag ( over $250.... I know i was a delivery driver in high school), 2 books of CDs but they left my golf clubs IDIOTS.

That sucks that they broke into it at a dealership. Most dealerships have a clause that they are not liable. So how did your homeowner's cover it if it wasn't at home?

You know that someone only broke in to steal the radio to cash out for about a $20 bill for crack or whatever......

Trashed the entire dash and probably trashed your wires in the dash not to mention the window.....

A very old New York trick was to leave a roll of dimes or a roll of quarters in a cupholder..... the thief is only looking for enough $ for a fix and normally they would take the money and run.... and leave the radio.

It is a small investment when you consider the possible damage done.

Was this a pricey CD player or just a run of the mill $200 version?

Ron,
It was about a $250 alpine. I will never buy one of those crazy cd players for $500+ with all the fancy screensavers and what-not. The alpine sounded amazing and thats all I care about. Plus why give them more eye candy.

Man, I feel for you....
as another 4R lover, i'm sure WE ALL feel for you like it was us. Do you have an alarm? did it go off? I hope you get everything taken care of in short order.

That sucks. But you should invest in two things:

1. Alarm System
2. 12 Gauge

Unfortunately if you shoot someone breaking into your vehicle you more than likely are in for a very long legal process and will have your name dragged through the mud. Pretty much get in trouble for shooting someone if your not in immediate danger. I don't agree with it but it happens. I know a instructor for concealed handgun liscenses and he said if you are traveling; it is better to carry some good pepper spray. If someone tries to jack you, spray them and then take them to the ground and wail on them and beat the $hit out of them. You get satisfaction and avoid pretty much any legal mess.

Hey sorry to hear about that.

I went through the same crap a year and a half ago. I was on Spring break, just enjoying myself, finally earning some money with my new job (high school part time), and I bought a new radio that wasn't really that expensive, like $100. Well I guess I was dumb and since I live in a pretty nice neighborhood I didn't take too many precautions and I had no alarm.

But I was with a friend, and we were headed to a party so I didn't want to drive. So we parked outside my house as normal, put my ipod in the glovebox thinking nothing will happen because it's been a month or two and no problems. Leave my radio headunit on (it wasn't that appealing). I wake up to find my back passenger wing window broken. They stole the faceplate off my head unit, didn't break naything but the window, stole my ipod, went throuhg everything. They looked in my trunk for subs/amp because they probably saw me blasting music or something, but luckily I hadn't gotten them installed yet.

But ya that sucked, that absolutely ruined my break because I was broke and was just starting to earn money and lost my $300 ipod, $100 haed unit. And had to get it replaced.

I was really pissed, so I really feel you. It seems like your older so you have some money to spend, but it sucks regardless. And obviously your situation is muc hworse than mine, but at least your insurance will probably take care of it.

Good luck.

damn that sucks. Our '99 got broken into last year sitting in the driveway. They crammed a screw driver under the weather seal around the triangle window by the back seats. A quick flick of the wrist and it exploded.

It looks like we got lucky though, they popped the dash out around the CD player, and removed it with a screw driver. They just took the CD player and a few CD's. The bummer thing though, is that damn CD player was only 3 months old, and they ended up cutting the $30 I-Pod cable so it was ruined too.

Oh well...we are very diligent in taking the face off the CD player now, I also usually leave the glove box open and center console open at night...nothing to hide and hopefully nothing worth trying to steal.

gapboi210 - shooting someone is prolly the last thing anyone would do to a thief breaking into a vehicle. its just a joke. i rather beat someone down before thinking about shooting them.

but on the other note trd_4runnin did your get your rides fixed yet?
