4runner doesn't or does have these features?

So with the help of Demello (He referred me to a dealer in CO), I flew out to CO this past weekend and picked up a 4 Runner Trail Premium. I was blown away how good the ride is and especially the gas milage (Coming out of Rubicon on 38's). Stock for stock, the 4runner smokes the Rubicon in this department (Im sure some has to do with the Rubicons stock tires). The seats are hard as a friggin rock on a long drive, really my only complaint. Ive read over the owner's manual and cant find an answer, so I am hoping someone may know. There are three things driving me crazy (May seem small to some).

1.) There are no approach lights at night when you unlock the doors?

2.) Is there a way I can program so all the doors unlock at the same time on the key fob?

3.) At night, the buttons to adjust the mirror do not illuminate like all the rest of the switches in the car. I tried to adjust several times at night on the way back and had to turn on the interior lights to be able to see what I was adjusting.

I did notice at the back of the manual it said I would have to take it to a dealer for certain programming.Does anyone know if the two features are available at all on this rig? Overall, I am really happy with the rig, and will have Demello (Great Guy) doing the lift/sliders/wheels and tires when the parts come in.

3. -- Learn the pattern and do it by feel. Safer anyway, you don't look away from the road.

Dealer programming - it may show in the owners manual what is available to program. Many have bought a cable and program and do it themselves, me included. That way you can change you mind a few times. A search will find more info on this.

Take that new 4Runner off-road where it belongs and post some photos.

2. Do you want all doors to unlock on a single click of the fob? That may be programmable but I don't see how it's much better than double clicking the unlock on the fob.

3. No lights on the side mirror control. I'm assuming because it's not something you use too often, once you know where it is, like cruise control, there's really no need for unnecessary light in the cockpit.

You can also get the Windows programmed to roll down by holding the unlock button. I like that feature. Also, a while back someone posted a list of all programmable features. Try the search, it should come up.

Thanks my man. I love the NAV but for a 42k vehicle not to have approach lights at night, cmon? Im a big boy, but my wife will be driving it at night so its more for her. I would be nice for the key fob to unlock all the doors at once, for some reason there's a delay on mine when hitting the button again to open unlock the passenger side.. I guess I'll have to teach my fat sausage fingers to be a little thinner when adjusting the mirror. Cant wait to drop this thing off at Demello's

Yes your 4runner has approach lights unless yours is different than my 2014 sr5. You just have to position the switches on the dome lights and the rear (trunk area) light to the correct position. There are three on the switchs.

My TEP has lights on the mirrors that come on when unlock is pushed on the keyfob.

I too dislike pushing the button twice to unlock all, mainly because sometimes I don't think about it and don't press it quickly enough the second time... which means three beeps to make everything open. Speaking of which, the beeping on unlock kind of annoys me. Although I like it for the lock confirmation. Much less annoying than a horn honk.

Not on the non-premium models.
On the Premium models there are puddle lights and turn indicators on the sides of the mirrors.

This is for safety reasons

Every Toyota (I've owned 6) unlocks the same way: one click to unlock driver door, second click to unlock the other doors. I've heard this is a designed safety feature to prevent someone who is hiding on the passenger side from entering the car when a solo driver enters.

If you are concerned about your wife driving alone, this is a good thing. You should teach her to immediately lock the doors on entry and not wait until it happens automatically when put into gear.

I've taught my daughter: immediately lock the doors, start the car, then do seat belts, mirrors, etc. That way a quick getaway is possible if needed.

If you're thinking, "well, yeah, but if I have a passenger, this feature won't help." Perhaps. But if the bad guy is spotted by the pax there is time to react, scream, run, etc. No time to react if you are alone and bad guy has an unlocked pax door as you are sitting down. Or if the bad guy comes at you when you are opening the driver door (since he knows the pax is locked), then again you might have time to react instead of being trapped in the car.

It does seem like a lot of effort for a situation that probably doesn't happen very often.

On the puddle lights, yes they are dim....I changed mine to LEDs and it made a HUGE difference.

That makes me think now, could that be a new mod?

I just bought the Fyrefly LED kit. I dont think it has the outside mirror lights. I will have to get those as well.

They are the same 194(T10) as the license plate lights, vanity lights and a few others. It's a pretty simple change an LEDs make a big difference.

You can program the volume of that beep (or have the dealer do it)
I turned mine down so I can hear it if close but not loud enough to annoy neighbors.

LED's make all the difference. For most of us here the lighting is the first thing that gets upgraded, then the real mods happen.

I have the Fyre fly 12 piece kit sitting in the garage (3014 series). But it looks like I still need to get the vanity LED's and the outside side mirrors since the kit didnt come with those, I will be making that call today.

I think I am more used to it than anything, I cant remember any of my cars not having this feature. Again, if the wife is by herself more illumination is better. Not a deal breaker, I still love the rig, but something I did expect on a 42k vehicle. The reason I posted this thread is I didnt know if I was overlooking something in the manual. It looks like it doesnt have the approach lights and is not able to unlock in one swipe. So now its on to the lift and Icon Stage 5, cant wait to hit the malls!:happy:
