4Runner Drivers Don't Wave?

So a cool part of the WRX and Wrangler communities is the wave/thumbs up. I have tried doing this with other lifted/modded 3rd gens on the road and get ignored every time. 5th gen Trail Edition guys give me a look like I'm some kind of lunatic. I know there are a lot of non-enthusiasts who buy these things but I thought that people who mod would know what's up.

Are you guys friendly with other 4Runner drivers? I honestly get better reception from people in American pickup trucks and lifted Wranglers.

I only wave to Imperial Jade Metallic 3Gens. They almost always wave back. We are a superior breed. It's not Imperial for nothing...

I wave to other modded 4Runners/Tacos/FJs I see on the road, and do get a fair number of waves back. Must just be your area, haha. I even wave at some modded JKs/TJs I see around, and they do almost always wave back. They've got it down!

Waving in the WRX/STi world ended around '06-'07... at least in SoCal.

Too many = not exclusive club = no more waves.

I'd say just give a quick thumbs up and be happy with a smile or thumbs up in return. You are much more likely to get a positive response with a motion that says "Lookin' good!" rather than, "Hi, fellow owner!"

not too many modded 4runners in my area. i usually dont get any waves back or acknowledgment. i think theres only 5 that ive seen. and none have waved back, well jburt i havent seen while in my 4runner.

This is an interesting point. My off-roading friends all have Jeeps (I know, I need new friends lol... j/k they take me under their wing and are really good guys). When I am driving behind them to trail I notice all the Jeeps that pass by, they wave at each other. I find it odd because there are so bloody many of them on the road and they make up what seems like 80+% on the trail. The wave seems funny when Jeeps are so plentiful.

i wave everytime! i get the same sometimes though, or i admire a truck and someone gives a the stink eye... lol :fencing:

I've never given or gotten waves, but admittedly, I don't come across a lot of 3rd gens in my area, let alone lifted/modded ones.

I have had a handful of people (not 4Runner driver/owners) chat with me at red lights, asking me about my rig and giving me the thumbs up.

My wife doesn't get it, lol. She's not a fan of my 4Runner, lol.

There's absolutely a first gen wave. Can't drive past another first gen around here without getting a wave. Sometimes the second gen and 3rd gen guys wave if they're modded, but ALL the first gens will wave.

Unless I see one of the local guys from the forum I typically don't wave or do anything.

Most of the modded 3rd gens around around here are hillbillies anyway.

Quite a few modded 5th gens in my hood... I'd say 1/2-3/4 of them wave at me or give a thumbs up.

100% are lookin'.

There's one stock 3rd gen IJM sport edition with bright blue HID lights I see at LEAST once a week. Every time I see him he's racing up behind me in my rear view mirror, slows down a little as he passes me, then takes off like a bat out of hell. He probably thinks he's impressing me or something, but I think he's an idiot.

If you're on here, which I think you may be considering how weird you drive around me, I think you're an idiot.

Buy an early Miata if you want waves.

I'll wave to any gen modded 4runner. Mostly I look if they have running boards or not. Lol.

Haha! Thats what mine is but the PO put a white vinyl wrap around it so you would not be able to tell. I'm a superior breed that's undercover.

I will wave or nod if I see a modded 4R. I don't see too many when I am driving it. Mostly the soccer moms driving. See a ton when I am in another car!!LOL I haven't run into Phatyduck and he's in the same town.lol
