4Runner Drivers Don't Wave?

My truck isn't my DD but every single time I take it out I get waves, nods, all sorts of attention from modded tacos, 4Runners and even Heeps. I've had conversations in stop n go traffic and the parking lot of the grocery store....1st gen problems I guess hahah

The only wave I've ever gotten was from a bone stock '96 with running boards and a sagging rear driven by an old Hispanic guy. Really surprised me.

I see a ton of 3rd-5th gens (mainly stock) on a daily. I don't wave to anyone anymore. I found the 1st Gen tacoma crowd waves and is more interested than anyone else. I've had a few red light conversations with some tacomas. Not sure what it is about austin but it's full of 3rd gen 4runners and 1st gen xterras

Same here in Houston. Maybe even more so. 4wd models are hard to find here because it's so damn flat, yet everyone owns a 3rd gen. They honestly seem more prominent than F150s. Mostly due to their reliability, I assume.

OTOH, when I got my old CJ5 out of the shop I got a wave from a smoking hot college girl...then I learned it was just the Jeep wave. :redface:

There's nothing worse than seeing the '4wd' emblem on the back and the SR5 hood scoop and preparing to make an ass of yourself by waving, only to realize that it's just a mall crawler vehicle driven by a 4ft tall fat grandma. (not that short fat grandmas can't enjoy their 4x4 sports)

Or it doesnt even have the 4wd emblem. It just has sr5 and is lifted

So a cool part of the WRX and Wrangler communities is the wave/thumbs up. I have tried doing this with other lifted/modded 3rd gens on the road and get ignored every time. 5th gen Trail Edition guys give me a look like I'm some kind of lunatic. :lol: I know there are a lot of non-enthusiasts who buy these things but I thought that people who mod would know what's up.

Are you guys friendly with other 4Runner drivers? I honestly get better reception from people in American pickup trucks and lifted Wranglers.

I started waving to other 4runners after I got my motorcycle which is where I quickly learned that you wave to any motorcycle that isn't a harley. They're elitist pricks hahah!! I joke, but I rarely get a wave back from a harley, and I'm on an 81' yamaha, not a crotch rocket.

After i first got mine, i waved a few times but there are millions of these dammed things and as you pointed out, most owners are enthusiasts.
The guys that are into it are easy to spot!

About a month or so I was headed somewhere and another 4runner was making a turn past me. We both looked at each other like, "Do I wave?".

There was eye contact and a half-effort hand raise from the steering wheel.

I usually look for mods. Stock runners could be anyone but one that has some hours put into it shows they care about their runner and will know why I'm waving. I'm missing a bumper and grill on the front but just looking at it you know it's got time in it. Now on the other hand, there's always going to be those ignorant people who even a 4runner can't change. There is a 3rd gen in my neighborhood who literally has the exact same runner as me, but because he has aftermarket bumpers and his paint looks better he thinks he's better then me so we don't wave. We both have silver 3rd gens with black limited cladding, lifted, led bars on front and back, and low profile roof racks. Thought I found my runner soul mate and turns out he's just a tool.

I feel terrible. I rarely take the old girl out anymore, but did this past weekend around town. Saw a sweet ass Tacoma with a solid axle and crazy suspension but I didn't wave. I think I felt inadequate. And now reading thru and 2 different guys say they don't wave of it has running boards.... Well I ordered sliders this morning. I like the running boards but they do remove a fair level of respect from the Toyota/4wd community. Regardless of whatever else I have added including, lights, shovel/axe, huge tires and of course they don't know she's a supercharged 3.4 2nd gen... Until they try and pass me teehee
