4Runner fighter

Saw today where the '08 Pathfinder with the new V8 is hitting the dealerships. Still not in the same league as the 4Runner, but people may find that 300+ hp (and a staggering 380 lb. feet!) tough to resist. Still get a more well-rounded truck for the price with the Toyota, I get that. Lots of folks won't, though. All they will see is "380," and that'll be that.

Of course, real competition is good news for everyone. I don't own stock in Toyota or anything, so bring it on Nissan!

Did I mention 380 lb. ft. of torque?? Wow! Hope they've got some decent gears in those things, or hello recalls.

And the Pathfinder isn't a "real" offroader like the 4Runner, either. Try to find a Pathfinder forum like this one where current owners are talking about mods on their '07 Pathys, etc., they just aren't out there. They do have a real 4WD system, but the suspension isn't up to it. A few die-hards are still out there on the trails in the new Pathfinder, but they are few and far between.

4th gens off road aren't that common either and don't be suprised if the next gen 4Runnner loses a little more off road prowess now that Toyota has the FJ.

Nothing in Nissan's line up looks good. Everything they have is disgusting looking, especially the Quest and Versa. Infiniti on the other hand, has the HOT looking G sedan, new G coupe leaves little to desire for.

Obviously we dont know what they have in mind for the next gen. , but that would suck !!!!

Also with all the 4dr SUV's coming out that are supposed to be off road capable , like the 4dr Jeep Rub. , H3 , I would think it they are going to make the 4R more of a mall hopper they would need to come with a 4dr FJ with a little more space and a little longer WB.

Nissan. Yuck. It reminds me of kids who got a couple of transformers and set about to make an SUV. The Quest is simply the ugliest thing I have EVR seen.....looks like it was two or three vehicles put together.... IMHO

While I love my decision to get my 2005 4Runner over a Pathfinder, this new option WILL make the Pathfinder more competitive.

My final choice was between the T4R, the Pathfinder, and the Jeep Grand Cherokee. The Jeep lost because it was too small both inside & out. The Pathfinder had (and still has) a much nicer interior than the 4Runner.

The Pathfinder lost to the 4Runner because:

- The rear seats were slightly narrower than the T4R.
- The drivers seat was uncomfortable compared to the 4Runner.
- The V6 engine was NOISY has hell compared to the V8 of the T4R and not has powerful.
- The wheel wells looked too small to accept larger offroad tires.

I'm not sure if the V8 in the Pathfinder will be quieter but if it is, that would be one less minus compared to the 4Runner.

Oh, and the Pathfinder looks HORRIBLE from the rear.

Nothing can make up for its ugly exterior even with that 5.6 V8, that rear hatch window is just hideous looking. What's up with the rear door handles, it doesn't even match the style of the vehicle. I think most of the Nissans have gimmicky styling where they try to start a new trend but it never catches on. Also, the interior feels way cheaper than the 4Runner's. Its styling is just way too funky for me, looks like a LR3 and Dodge Durango put together, both I think are ugly SUVs. Just my opinion.

The Pathfinder had (and still has) a much nicer interior than the 4Runner.

Really??!! It may look better, but the materials are certainly not. Nissan interiors use cheap materials. Toyota & Honda are clearly ahead of Nissan in the materials that they use.

It all comes down to the individual driver. Both vehicles have certain superior qualities over the other. It is up to the driver's capabilities on how they want to use what they have.

The only gripe I have with the Pathfinder are the rear door handles. I know that's a throwback to previous Pathfinders but I never liked that design.

I think the 4th gen 4Runner looks like a tall station wagon with bulges (muscles). The 5th gen may look even more aerodynamic.

Btw, I like to show off my power liftgate window if a Pathfinder (or any SUV) is behind me. I hope the 5th gen keeps this feature.

IMO I really don't see the Pathfinder as a competitor to the 4R. I know everyone will disagree with me , but thats the way I see it. I don't see a direct competitor to the Toyota line up at all.

I think it has the edge as far as being an on road only , SUV/Minivan , family type of crossover vehicle. When I test drove one and talked about off road , they said no no , get an Xterra if you want to do that.

I bought the 4R because it was one of the few truck based SUV's available that are tough enough to handle some pretty tough off road stuff , even in stock form. Its reputation has been based on that for years.

Don't forget...Pathfinders two generations ago were true off-roaders, much like the 4runners. They were durable, reliable, and as capable as 4runners. They were/are used as beaters for some people. So, the heritage is there (maybe not as strong as 4runner's), but the last two generations have been more water down.

Depending on what months you are looking at you will see the stock going down/up. You need to look at the big picture! This chart shows the last 5 years, price on top and volume on the bottom.

Yes , you are correct Thai. Forgot about that , they really packed some big meats under the older ones.

But they are a different type of Suv/Wagon/ crossover/mini van now ....lol
