4runner heater core advice

Got the dreaded strawberry milkshake on a vehicle that I purchased. I replaced the engine and tranny with one I knew was good. Did a new radiator, transmission cooler, hoses etc.. I'm getting coolant dripping out of the ac drain on the firewall. Suspected heater core failure due to strawberry milkshake plugging it up..

I've found a DIY but I'm wondering if a good flush of the heater core will be sufficient enough. Disconnect hoses at firewall and run a hose through one side and vice versa? Do you think this will clean it out or should I bite the bullet and just replace it? Thanks
