4runner lift and set of wheels

Looking for a good set of wheels and. Decent priced lift kit.

Here's my rig it's currently riding at stock height and I'm running on 265/70/17

What do you guys suggest??

Man, you are about to get blasted on here with what are you wanting to do, what you plan to do with it, and what your experience is. But, to answer your question. I have icon on both my FJ an Runner and love them. There are other, cheaper products you may consider, however, my two cents recommends Icon.

As it goes for wheels, I have FN wheels on both trucks as well. Wheels are everywhere and everyone has one. The reason I chose FN was Dustin. He, alone was worth the cost of the wheel. He is a great guy and can answer anything wheel related.

I have 285's on mine and it required the inner fender mod with a little bit of cutting, but not a body mount chop like the FJ did.

Wheels: I'm still running OEM, but if I were to buy today I'd get the TRD look-alikes from FN.

But also, what is your budget?

Cheapest is a set of simple Daystar spacers (pucks). 2.5" in front, 1.5" in rear. One problem is that the rear OEM shocks tend to overextend if you hit things like speed bumps with any speed causing a loud "thump". This can be fixed by also installing slight longer rear shocks. This lift has the looks and will improve approach and breakover angles, but is not recommended for significant off-roading. The ride is essentially the same as stock just higher. Amazon for about $150, driveway install with basic tools and knowledge.

Next would be a set of Bilstein 5100's. For a lift the fronts are adjustable, but the rear requires spacers. Improves rear articulation and slightly stiffens suspension to help remove the infamous "brake dive". A set of four is about $350 including shipping from a vendor on here, plus maybe $75(?) for the spacer. Requires more knowledge and specialized tools for the install (assembling the coilover, mainly). Note that there are cheaper shock lifts available, but I wouldn't recommend them. Way too many negative reviews.

Next would be Billy 5100's with a taller springs all around (improves articulation all around over the options above).

Next would be some form of rebuildable shock and springs (Icons, etc.).

And so on and so forth. All the way up to an Icon Stage 7 (or similar from Fox, etc.) which is essentially replacing your entire suspension.

Really, it all depends on budget and goals. Is this going to be a "it looks cool" lift, or a "serious overlanding rig" lift, or a "weekend rock crawler" lift?

Awesome thanks guys!!! It's a commuter during the week and overlander/trail hunter during the weekends. Budget is under 1k for the set of wheels and lift. Thanks for the input i have little experience but i am doing the toyota t ten program, but I am new to building rigs! So really any advice is appreciated (

You're not getting wheels and a lift for under $1k, let alone with install. Maybe with some spacers. Assuming you're not a mechanic/tech or have the tools to do so. Or you may end up being that Rough Country rig.

I recommend doing some 5100s all around and run those stock wheels. It will be better than super cheap wheels or super cheap wheels and a spacer lift.

I agree with [MENTION=89562]bimrunner[/MENTION]... Get some 5100's all around and some tires (if you can bump your budget up just a hair). That's probably the best bang for your buck on your ~$1000 or so budget.

My needs for a lift are about what yours are. I do light offroading, mainly for hunting/camping, but wanted something more than the spacer up front. I have 5100s, a rear spacer, and wheels waiting to get installed.

If you are patient and shop deals, you can likely do it cheap. I was able to get the front 5100s (part # 24-196499) for about $150 shipped from Jet.com. If you are a new user, you get a big discount. Not sure if they will be that cheap currently, but it will likely be the cheapest available. I found a rear 1.5" Daystar rear spacer (part # KT09127BK) on ebay for $28 shipped. You can find them for $35 all day. I was quoted $260 for install and alignment. I purchased the Level 8 MK6 wheels at just shy of $500 shipped. I think it was $486 from Discount Tire Direct. However, this included a $100 rebate card through a labor day promotion. So $386 into that. Plus an additional $45 or so for lugs as the stock ones will not work with most aftermarket wheels.

That said, if you are not purchasing new tires, you can likely stay under $1000 without the 5100 rears (part # 33-187174). I will be adding these. I have seen them for around $150 as well. But you could initially just go with the fronts until budget allows for the rears. Just be careful with bumps. I'm putting 275 KO2s on, so that is an added expense for me. With a negative offset, the 265s look fine with a lift as well.

Not sure you'll find everything at those prices, but shouldn't be too too far off. I have known what I wanted for YEARS, just kept waiting. That is part of why I found the deals I did. Ordered the 5100s and spacer in Feb and have just been waiting on wheels. Finally pulled the trigger on those a few weeks back so I am ready. Let me know if I can help with any additional info.

Another vote for 5100s. Bilstein makes an outstanding product at the price they are at. Lift and tires are definitely not things you want to cheap out on because a month or two down the road you will regret it and end up spending more money.

For wheels I would check out the classifieds section of the forum. People upgrade wheels often so you can find some used stuff cheap. But the trail wheels look sweet. And you can always plastidip them if you want a different color :juggle:

He is trying to get a lift and tires for around ~$1000 (Refer to post #4 where he states this). So budget wise 5100's make sense and leave him a little money room for some wheels!
