4Runner limited with paneling painted black

Hey guys,

I have the grey on another shade of grey paint job and my paneling is somewhat scratched up. Any pics of this car with the paneling painted black? I am thinking about painting it all.

I did it to mine. I have the desert dune tan with black limited fender flares. Not sure how to upload a picture from my phone. I will see about sending it over to my computer.

Here are the pictures. I actually used plastidip which is an option and reversible. Its held up well aside from where passengers get in and out on the lower rockers. I went ahead and went over the grille wheels and chrome bumpers too. It adheres well to all surfaces, it even can take power washing.

Thanks for the pics, I think I am going to do it. I cant decide if I should do semi-gloss or flat. If anyone else has pics as well that would be great.

Here is mine I no longer have it but here is a pic of my black panels. I used a spray bed liner stuff in a rattle can from Home Depot. Came out very clean.

I used a Duplicolor Bed Armor out of a can from O'Reilly's. Love the look, still need to paint the bumpers though.

That truck looks KILLER! Really like the look just the way it is. Did you lift it as well?

What are you guys doing to prep the plastic for the bedliner spray? I was thinking I would just paint black,but now you have me considering going with the bedliner.

To me, bedliner is the way to go. Use some 80 grit to scuff the panels and then use paint prep to wipe them down with. I use Raptor liner on everything I get, and have done several other vehicles for friends. Easy to spray with a small home air compressor and comes with it's own spray nozzle and 4 1 qt. bottles and hardener.

Some pics of finished product. We did the front lower valance, fender flares and the lower section below the doors and rear hitch.

Just like BigSlim said, sand them down (I used a 180 grit, but anything will work) wash them with soap and water and make sure they are dry before you start. If you go with a bed liner make sure to do light coats because if you apply it really heavy it will come out really clumpy. Take the extra time and apply 4 light coats and you cant go wrong!

Well here are my results. I sanded with 100, taped it all off, and wiped them down with acetone. Then sprayed 6 maybe 7 light coats with rust-o-leum automotive enamel for plastics. Followed instructions on the can and let it all dry. Peeled the tape off and im a happy camper.

I will be painting the bumpers soon to match. Along with a grill mod. And ive got some tundra 17's getting powder coated gloss black at the moment. Cant wait til its all together.

I posted the crappy first pics but we have almost the same truck lol. I have even considered ordering the guard dogs. How do you like them? Noise? Wear? I even have the same black wheels.

I have done mine with the Rustoleum bed liner. One tip I would have is to not spray the rubber piece on the trim. I sprayed it on the first piece of trim I did and the paint peeled off after about a week. You might have better luck with different spray paint but the bed liner didn't stick to it. I will try and post some pictures soon.

Nice, I am kind of curious what my Anthracite LTD would look like with
either color matched or blackened flares. OR have to decide if I would
ever paint an aftermarket bumper the greyish OEM flare color...

My original plan was to paint mine with the bed liner, then paint them to match or paint them back to silver. However, now that they are black I kind of like them. I could still paint them in the future.
