OK. I have wanted a 4runner since the 2nd gen. came out. I am in the process of picking up my NEW leftover 06 limited 4runner with the v8. I was very impressed with the vehicle. I do have to give up my 02 frontier, (i know, its a nissan, but i have had no problems with the frontier.) Its silver and has every option but the nav. I just got married and she wants to have kids within the next 2 yrs., and the dealership is making me an offer that i cant refuse. The king cab frontier has served its purpose. My only concern is the 91 octane that i have to run in the v8. its the i force 4.7 v8. any and all imput would be appriciated. thanks in advance.

You don't have to run 91 octane !

I have run nothing but 87 in my 06 V8 4x4 Sport .

I don't think there are many ( if any ) who run 91.

Where did you read that or hear that ?

I don't understand this "new leftover" part...is it a demo truck or was it driven by someone in the dealership?? How many miles on it?? If it's a demo or dealer car, then i would definitely treat the car as a USED car when haggling the price, esp. if it has high mileage. Oh yeah, if it has a lot of miles, then i would be damn sure that it was maintained well (see maintenance logs).

you definitely DO NOT need to use anything higher than 87 octane fuel unless you tow.

i used 93 octane for the first year + when i got my 4Runner (this was when gas was real cheap) and it was wasted $$. runs perfect on regular.

@Falls... i remember reading somewhere, be it online or in the manual, that Premium was recommended which could be where the confusion lies. that's what convinced me to use Premium the short while that i did. add to the fact that i could never get a straight answer from my dealership either.

I read about this surfing the forums. the vehcile has 430 miles on it. Never titled anywhere, just did the carfax.

Most likely it was a dealer demo or a manager/owner driven vehicle then.

I also run 87 in my 03 V8. At first I did run a few tanks of 93, then switched to 89 for about a year. Now I've been on 87 for a while and no noticeable difference. I may get 1 MPG less average per tank, but it's not noticeable.

The V8 "recommends" 91+ but doesn't really require it. 9.5 : 1 compression is fine with 87. Granted it's close, anything over 10:1 I would run 89 or 91. I believe (don't quote me b/c I don't have one) the 4th gen V6 has a 10.5 : 1 and people still run 87 and get away with it.

Thanks for everyone who replied and informed me. I just picked My 4 runner up last night. I have never been in a vehicle that had such low wind noise. When it was idling, leaving the dealership, I met my wife drive ( I know) , she wanted to know if it was even running, Thats how quiet it is. I owned a nissan, and its not that it was a bad vehicle in any way, but the detail that toyota puts into their product is amazing.
