4Runner New Radio Antenna Blues

Hello everyone, I need some help hooking up my new radio a JVC KW-XR810 to m 1992 4Runner.

I've figured out everything but the antenna power lead. According to info I found here for a 1994 Runner the wire (on the wiring harnes) to control the antenna is the Black/Red wire. On my spiffy new radio I have a BLUE (white stripe) wire that is labled "To the remote lead of other equipment or automatic antenna if any (200 mA max.)

When i turn on the radio I don't get the antenna coming up or even when I put 12v on the black and read lead do I get the antenna to come up.

I've tested the antenna directly and it does go up and down with power and it changes direction with the polarity of the power. So I am guessing that there is a relay that controls the power antenna. Can anyone tell me how to lick this problem? I lou of an outright fix can anyone tell me where the antenna relay is located? If I can figure out what relay does the work I can trace the wire I need, I hope.

I would look this up on my shop manuals but I can't find them at the moment.

Remember that the Blue/white wire from the radio is the 'trigger' to turn on the relay and is separate from the 12v supply voltage to the antenna.

A basic relay has at least 4 contacts:

1. Trigger contact (in this case 12v at 200mv) that goes to the coil part of the relay and exits the relay to ground.

2. 12v supply voltage to electrical component (in this case the antenna) that goes to the relay, exits the relay and goes to the antenna, then goes to ground.

Yep your right. I'm assuming/hoping that pulling removing the original radio does nothing to wiring of the antenna relay except cutting the trigger wire. So I'm trying to figure out how to trigger the relay. I was hoping someone might know where the relay is located so I could inspect the connection directly and see what wire is the trigger.

I found a reference to the pin out on the radio last night that said that the radio had two antenna wires. Black with red stripe and brown. But I can't find that reference this morning (I wasn't smart enough to book mark it). Anyway does anyone know where the relay is or how to hook up a trigger wire to the stock antenna?

are you not using an aftermarket wiring harness?

typically, you just match up the wires from the aftermarket head unit the aftermarket wire harness and you're good to go!

black to black, yellow to yellow, green/white to green/white... etc.
