Howzit!?

I've always wanted a 4Runner or a Toyota Truck as a kid... and now, I've traded in my Audi A4 for a '07 4Runner V8 4x4!!! I'm so stoked!

As far as mods go, what should I do first ? Keeping these in mind:

- makes it kick ass in the snow
- not too expensive, while upgrading the performance
- does not void my warranty

I'm originally from and still rep Hawai'i...

What do you think about spacers for now?
to give it a wider stance?

Welcome and congrats!

Before recommending new tires, what do you have on there now? The Michelin's are the only stock tire worth keeping through winter. Dunlops on SE's will get you through one winter and I have not paid much attention to the tires on SR5's.

One tire I would recommend is the Nokian WR. It is a directional all season H speed rated tire with a 60k mile warranty and has excellent snow traction. (carries the snowflake symbol) It comes in stock and 265/70/17 sizes. It is a great year round tire. From a little research, it is a popular tire with VW Touareg owners, who run it year round. Being a heavy full time 4wd truck as well, many owners found it wore well and provided excellent year round traction. It will have a more rounded sidewall look than squared off appearance of all terrain REVOS (which are probably one of the better looking tires out there) but that translates into better driveability.

Hopefully you can trade in your stock tires to save some $.

As for performance mods. Intakes run 250-300 with performance improvements being marginal. Exhausts can cost more, so I'm not sure how much you want to spend. Moving out of an Audi, I'm sure you are used to writing a big check from time to time.

Yes, the OEM tires are not very good but the 4Runner can have Bologna skins and still get traction. I have over 30K miles on the Bridgestones and they still work OK. I

Here is what I would do IF i had a 4runner:

1. Tint front window (not ghetto, but legal) to closely match rear privacy glass (if possible)
2. BFG AT KO 32" (265/70/17) or equivalent AT tire (REVOs, Michelin A/T-2, or Goodyear SilentArmor)...do not go any bigger because of rubbing unless you lift it above 2". At 32" size, there is only minimal speedometer differences. For winter tires, i would recommend BFG AT KO or Goodyear SilentArmor while still having aggressive look. Some people do not like REVOs in snow.
3. Junk the running boards...see #4
4. Rock sliders from ARB or Hanna or Shrockworks...IMHO, the ARB slider/step is the classiest option; however, i hear that ARB is not offering it for the 4runner. So, check first with ARBUSA.com. See this thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=30885

These mods should make your 4runner look really cool! There are two additonal steps that you may want to consider to make your 4runner into a monster:

1. 1" front lift to even out the 4runner's stance...the 1" should not cause any issue. This small front lift should get rid of the nosedive/butt lift on the 4runner. In addition, you will get slightly more frontal clearance for off-roading.

2. ARB rear locker with on-board air compressor...this mod will make your 4runner into an off-roading monster! A locker can make you go places where you could not before with confidence. The air compressor will allow you to air up your tires with ease quickly. In addition, i think that it can power air tools too.

If you do all of the mods above, then your 4runner will easily keep up (and beat) > 95% of SUVs/trucks out there.
