4Runner Problem Please Help

So for the past several weeks I've been noticing a very strange sound while accelerating. The best way to describe it is if you are just whispering to someone to be quiet like, "shhhhhhh...". It isn't a continuous noise, but it is noticeable when accelerating. It sounds almost like a fluid rushing through a small pipe very quickly, or a fluid rushing through a small pipe with air bubbles in it, or air rushing very quickly through a small space. Well, I did not think much of it until today, I had to stop suddenly. After that, everything was fine in 1st, but when it shifted into 2nd gear, I got no power. I put the petal to the floor, and maybe I got the TINIEST amount of power, but it wasn't anything to keep me going more than 10mph. So I stopped. I tried merging back onto the road and everything worked great until it shifted into 2nd from first, and I had the same problem. I parked it, not being able to drive, and then returned to it later and it drove with no problems all the way home, however that sound was still present.

No I don't know if the sound and the incident today are related or not, but please help me out! The sound is weird and the loss of power in 2nd gear today is very peculiar. Please let me know what the problems could be! Thanks!

PS: The sound in question is coming from the engine area (under the hood).

Oh, and also, this isn't a big problem but I've noticed that whenever I have a hard stop and I press the gas afterward nothing happens for about a second, and then it lurches forward with a very hard thud. What is that?

Driveline Thunk ---- Lube the spline joints on both front and rear axles.
While you're at it, lube the U-joints.

I don't know about the noises your hearing, but I remember an incident I had once where I had to stomp on the brakes hard to keep from rear-ending the vehicle in front of me. He immediately took off and I immediately hit the gas and............nothing, no power at all. After a second or two it accelerated fine and was normal. It was very strange and I was like WTF!
I don't know the technical aspect of it, but I just kind of wrote it off as the runners computer couldn't react fast enough to match the human reflex.
It hasn't happened since because I try to compensate somewhat for it.

It sounds to me more like a gas line problem... fuel pump? fuel lines? fuel injection? How would I tell?

Just some thoughts here. Should not be a pump as there is no probs at 1st gear. Try it manual. 1st, then 2nd and so on. Sounds like an air gets sucked.
