4Runner Refuses To Start

On Monday morning while trying to go to work, the truck refused to start. When I turn the key, it will just make a clicking noise (click, click ) without starting the engine. My wife had to stay behind to find a mechanic to attend to the problem while I took my daugter to school using public transportation. My wife phoned later to inform me the mechanic diagonised the starter as the "culprit" and replaced the damaged part. She tested by starting the car and everything seemed ok.

This morning, Tuesday, I tried to start the truck again and it gave me the same clicking noise. After cranking the engine several times the car started eventually, and brought me to work. This evening, after work, the car refused to start and I have decided to park it overnight in my office premises.

Tomorrow, I am bringing the mechanic to have a second look. Where do members think I should concentrate my troubleshooting on. Thanks in advance

The truck is 1991 sr5 v6

it is most likely that it is your battery, not your starter. I would check that before you go and spend the money on the starter. Make sure that you check the battery connections as well.

Thanks Joshua,

The problem was with the battery. I borrowed a friends battery to check and it started at a touch. I am going to get a new battery soonest.
The auto electrician charged me for labour although the problem was not the starter.
Thanks again.

First of all Get the battery checked and see if it's bad. If the battery isn't bad, Then it's your ignition switch.
