I work for a Toyota dealer, and last year, I had a customer who lived in Texas (suburb of Dallas) purchase a new Land Cruiser. Anyway, he arranged for shipment from DAS Auto Shippers. Here's how it went down:
On a Wednesday, I get a call from DAS stating the customer's name and vehicle. They said the vehicle will be picked up within 48 hours. The next day (Thursday), a local company about 40 miles away, came with a flat bed and loaded the Cruiser. Before loading, they completely inspected it and noted any imperfections. The Cruiser then traveled back the 40 miles to the tow companies holding lot. There it sat until Tuesday of the next week. They had to wait until a transport truck was full enough to pick it up. So, I called the customer to let him know that it was finally on it's way to him. Over the next couple days, we tracked the vehicle through their online tracking service. On Friday of that week, guess where the customer's $60K Land Cruiser was.....In New Jersey! Turns out, they had to pick up a couple more cars to make a full load heading south. The customer was pissed, but he arranged the shipping himself and had no problem with us.
Anyway, he finally received the truck on following Friday. So, that put the total time to transport the Cruiser from central Illinois to Dallas, Texas (he had to pick it up at one of their hubs about 20 miles from his house) at 16 days; at a cost of $1,050. Granted, they completely detailed the truck before he picked it up and everything turned out fine, but for 16 days and $1,050, I'd be hitting the interstates across the country.
Just my opinion, but I'd sit down and figure out how many hotels you'd have to stay in and what fuel will cost you and consider driving. Besides the fact that your truck will make it there LONG before a transport would, look at the fun you can have driving across country!
