4Runner swaying

Hello
I have a 2008 4runner and I hit a pothole and the tire went flat. i replaced the tire with the same brand and got an alignment and wheels balanced. The truck is swaying when I am driving on the highway and I start to notice at the speed of 65 miles an hour. Does the new tire which is in the passenger rear does it just need time to break or is there another problem ? Already put about 200 miles on the tire.

I do know that tires should be replaced in sets. (EDIT: In pairs, not ALL.) It's not mandatory but a best practice. Try rotating the tires and see if the results are the same. Put the newbie tire in the back.

Should I take in and have the mechanics take a look or just drive more and breakin the tire?
 
How many miles were on the other 3 tires? Or more importantly, what is their tread depth compared to the new one?

You might want to check your owner's manual but there is usually a guideline for how different the tire diameters can be. If you have a full-time 4WD model you also need to make sure that *all 4* tires match, not just the pairs.

The other three have been on since august. Costco warranty only replaces the damaged tire.

Let's try this again.

Swaying? Do you mean pulling L or R? Get the alignment checked.

Or does the steering wheel wobble in your hands. That's probably balancing.

If you hit a hole badly enough to ruin a tire, you may have damaged the rim. Just because they said it balanced, IMO doesn't eliminate damage.
I think you need a better shop than Costco. There are wheel shops that can identify a bent wheel and true it up.

Oh, and tires do not need to "break in".

No wobble in the wheel. Went under the truck could not see any damage. I am with you I am thinking bent rim or they did not do a good job on the alignment. I can tell the tire is running on the inside.

200 miles on a new tire, and YOU CAN SEE WEAR? Something is badly wrong man. If you don't fix it very soon you will ruin a new tire, or worse.
I'd be very surprised if you didn't damage some front suspension parts.

So I was on a long highway drive and I noticed that I was constantly correcting the cars direction. It was almost like to a beat. It was only noticeable on straight aways. You feel a little rocking motion only from the rear.

As for the tire wear I am not seeing wear but noticing when I drive over sand and water that the other edge is not dirty or wet.

18k miles on the other 3 tires is not a lot but I think it is worth checking the tread depth. Depending on what kind of tires you have on that could be 1/3 or 1/2 of the tire life.

Tread difference of a 2-3 /32" is not a big deal but if you have a difference of 4 or more you should consider replacing the pair (or all 4 if you have a full-time 4WD system).

i'd

get all the tires balanced, and have the alignment checked and ask them for the tech sheet....and post it here

Could just be me, but that looks off camber. (top of tire pulled towards cab) (which is not a good sign on the rear axle) Negative? camber would explain why the outer edge is clean. If you have the 4WD V8, I would be worried about running a new tire with 3 tires with 18k on them. iirc, a good tire shop can trim a tire down to match tread depth

Take it in to a real tire shop or a trusted mechanic. Either one should point you in the right direction.

Whoa, I think many of us (incl me) are guilty of assuming you hit the front tire. Evidently not the case.

Is this right OP? MAYBE YOU SHOULD CLARIFY.

Agree with Ninja, that rear tire doesn't look right. I retract all those alignment comments I made. Still, something is wrong. Fix it before you have a serious problem.
