My wife was in a single MVA nov 20th, raining, bad(really bad) road, lost traction and went into a skid, wasn’t able to recover before going off the edge, sounds like the 4Runner went about 30’ down, rolled, and cane to rest on the passenger side about 100’ down.
She was able to extract herself and call 911. No immediate major injuries, but went into acute liver failure and spent a few days in the ICU with a liver transplant team on call.
She wound up taking a turn for the better, liver made a recovery and she was released from the hospital on the 27th!

Some lessons learned, I kept a fire extinguisher and rescue tool mounted to the drivers seat with a absolute wits end mount, she knew they were there and assessed whether she needed them or not, she did not. Both were still there. The flashlight I kept in the door ala [MENTION=65614]Antman[/MENTION] went flying and wound up in the rear cargo area covered in mud. That will be getting a quickfist or Velcro one wrap next time around.
I keep a trauma kit in the car, thankfully she didn’t need it, but she knew it was there, but expressed concern that she doesn’t really know what to do if she needed to. So we’re going to explore some trauma care training for her. Everything in your car becomes a projectile in a crash. Secure everything that you can.

Glad your wife is ok. I wish the pictures had shown.

I’ve wondered how all my gear would fare in a situation like that. You’ve got me thinking another review is in order.

I really appreciate you sharing that and remind us on something like that. It’s obviously that everything lose can turn into a projectile but at least me think to much often: “nothing will happen” - wrong, it can happen anytime because no matter how good you drive, no matter if your car is up to date when it comes to safety features etc. or the weather is ideal, there is always unknown others.
 
Good that your wife is on the road to recovery.

I suspect that she had her cell phone in her purse (and was able to find that) but this is another reminder to make sure that a phone is mounted securely so that it doesn't become a projectile and that you can actually find it following an accident.
 
Really glad your wife is ok! Had to be a harrowing experience for her.

I’m curious how you think the vehicle held up as far as occupant protection.
 
Sounds like your wife is fortunate to be alive. Hopefully her recovery will be complete and without complications.
As for your lessons learned, all good for after the fact but zero on the preventive side. I don’t mean to be harsh but the obvious omission is to slow down. Yea I know I wasn’t there, however post inclement weather accident reports rarely omit mentioning excessive speed for the conditions as a factor. Whenever the road surface is contaminated, i.e. wet, frost, hail, snow, tire adhesion is compromised. Wanna see someone’s eyes roll to the top of their head, ask them how and when hydroplaning occurs. Huh? Further, it rarely occurs to drivers to pull off the road and “shelter in place” (restaurant) until conditions improve, and they always do even if it takes awhile. None of us have some place we have to be if we never arrive.
Not suggesting you should “mansplain” this to your wife unless you want to accept responsibility for her accident, not to mention have it come up in unrelated discussion (argument) years from now. After 44
years of marriage (incarceration) to the same woman I’ve picked up a few “rules of thumb”, just sayin.

Can I ask what kind of tires you had on the car?
Curious because I'm still on stockers, but was going to go to KO2s at some point but everyone says the rain performance is pretty bad on them
 
If you have a .jpg, open it in Microsoft Paint. Click Resize then choose Pixels. Change Horizontal to 800. This should make it small enough to upload.

Click Reply, then scroll down and click on "Manage Attachments".

Click "Choose File" and then browse to your picture and select Open. Then click "Upload".

Then just click on Submit Reply and your done.

Cell phone was in her pocket. I'm very thankful for that. She just switched to one of the cases that has a card holder on the back and she cant use a magnet phone mount with it, so it stays in her pocket in the car now.

I feel like it did exceptional, no broken bones and no lacerations.

BFG Ko2s. I've used BFGs for decades and have never noticed any rain traction issues, but then again I grew up in east county san diego, not exactly a wet environment. And we have had a ton of rain here this year. I'll probably be re thinking tires this go around. But we will see.

Tried all that and it still wouldn't work. The upload button in the attachment manager kept telling me the files were invalid even after re sizing. I got imgur to work from my laptop, apparently the websites software doesn't like the mobile version.

Hug your loved ones, don't fret over stuff, secure stuff in your vehicle and if you have the means and availability invest in real driver training.

oh jeez man--- I'm glad to read that your wife is ok! Being on standby for a transplant must have caused some sleepless nights. What an incredible turn of events.

All the best to you and yours. Hopefully we can all be a little more thankful for our loved ones from the story you shared. Not to mention the cautionary tale... It's the kick in the ass I need to clean a few unnecessary items out of the cargo area.
