4runner TRD Pro

Picked up my 2016 TRDP on Friday, was surprised with the number of miles. :thumb: Been going over the whole vehicle and found these on both sides, in front of the rear wheels. :wtf: Anyone know what the heck these little black plastic tabs are or do?

I used it as the marker for my nfab nerf bars ;-)

My '14 Limited had this same exact sticker and also said 16#. (no 3rd now, no sliding cargo tray)

My TRD arrived this week. :whoo: Thought this sticker on the door jamb was interesting and quite silly at the same time. So the TRD parts added at port only weigh 16 lbs. more than the factory items?

Congrats on picking up your TRDP!!! Enjoy it. Yeah, I have the same thing on mine and was told it was for wind deflection.

there's no need to "re-align their factories" because they're really basic Trail Editions that get the TRD Pro bits added upon arrival at port.

not exactly. Are you saying they come with no seats, no door panels, no 4WD selector and they add the crawl control, multi terrain , etc?

Not even close to the basic trails when you think about it. This stuff is done in Japan (not all of it, but most)

i don't even know where to begin with the complete nonsense you've committed to prose here in your post. it is Friday, however... have you been drinking?

Just picked up a 2016 TRD Pro 4Runner on Monday. Dealer had just rolled it onto the lot. 4 miles on the odo. Magnetic gray. Traded in my 2016 jeep rubicon hard rock for the Toyota. Hands down love the 4Runner over the Jeep other than the 4Runner seats are a little stiff. Hopefully they will break in some.

He kinda makes sense no? If Japan ships a TE and someone wants a TRDP are we to believe that the port takes out the cloth seats and door panels and puts in Softex ones? I believe there is softex and red stitching on the 4WD selector boot also that is not on a TE?

The front garnish could be added as they do it all the time.. and I think TE's come with crawl control and Multi-T as that is a native feature of all Trails, Trail premiums and TRDP's...

Also TE's and TEP's can come with KDSS so these vehicles would have to be non-KDSS variants to fit conversion criteria.

And...there's more. TE's and TEP's do not get auto headlights and the TRDP wiring loom is specific to that vehicle so are we saying that they are replacing the loom also? Because I know they are not splicing in this feature on a new vehicle. That would be a shit shit thing to do on a new purchase.

no, what he's written doesn't make any sense whatsoever. the "no seats, no door panels, no 4WD selector and they add the crawl control" business broadcasts a pretty wholesale ignorance on the subject, frankly.

to your questions: Toyota doesn't ship an (allocated) TE and "turn it into an (unallocated) Pro" because "someone wants it." there is a fixed allocation of both models (actually, of all models).

and, as such, there are specifics as to what's included in each model—built upon precisely the same base—as it moves down the production line. point is, so far as the Tahara plant's production line is concerned, the Pro is more or less a base model TE that ships in a specific set of colors, with specific interior Softex trim, and a specific front grill. then, when it finally arrives at port, it gets the rest of the Pro bits added. it shipped from Japan as a "Pro"... it simply wasn't finished until it got the final treatment stateside. no biggie.

unlike the Tacoma and the Tundra, the fact that the 4Runner is shipped fully assembled from Japan undoubtedly creates import and tax implications that, from the perspective of a balance sheet, make good business sense for Toyota to manage the 4Runner TRD Pro's final assembly this way. i'm sure the Taco and Tundra Pro are handled differently.

i don't see what the big deal is or why any of this is so difficult for some to grasp or digest (or stomach). i sincerely don't understand where the distaste, denial and delusion surrounding this subject comes from.

Just to clear up any confusion here is the port prep sheet from my truck, I specifically requested my dealer keep the truck in the exact state as it rolled off the carrier as I really wanted everything possible as I am a car nerd.

the pic may be a bit hard to read but it shows the following done at port.

4 gallons of gas
TRD Pro wheels/tires
PRO suspension remove/install
Alignment
Lower door paint film
TRD Skid plate
TRD badges
TRD shift knob
Remote engine starter (option i ordered)
TRD floor mats
Cargo tray (mat not the slide out)
All weather mats (didnt really want them but in a moment of weakness i said OK)

There you have it, the only TRD specific thing done at the factory is my quicksand paint job. (edit: and the front grill)

This also means any non quicksand or inferno or for 17 cement trucks rolled off the line as trail premiums without a sunroof or kdss basically.(edit: and the front grill, so even the SW and MGM trucks are built as PROs)

Sorry to the SW and MGM guys and gals. us people of special color are more unique. ;):
