I agree! Still haven't seen where these will be priced at though.

On another note, I seen the TRD pro Tacoma on I40 the other day heading west by Prewitt, NM. I was heading East so I didn't have time to get any pics. I almost turned around and chased it down to get pics though. It was about 6:00pm and the burnt orange color looked amazing the way the sun was hitting it.

If the TRD pro 4runner is priced sort of close to the TE premium, I may change my order.

Is the TRD Pro based on a Trail base or Trail premium? I only saw the seats on the tundra and they were cloth. I'd guess that the 4runner Pro will be based on a Trail base. Figure a $3k or $4k premium over a Trail base with KDSS.

Yeah, thats about how much I was guessing they were going to be. Its a little more than I would want to pay for one. I can't imagine how hard it would be to find one, especially in white. My dealer is having a hard enough time getting a white TE premium without KDSS. They sure do look nice though!

seems like the reviews themselves are typically pretty decent but the comment sections are, without fail, just brutal.

The comments section of any Car and Driver Article is mostly comprised of utterances by people who have never owned anything better than a Sunfire GT if they even have a car. Or, it's people that are against anything without a domestic nameplate. I take the bait and read some of them purely for entertainment.

Back to the topic at hand, I hope some of the visual cues make it to the Trail model, but if what they say is true about the "squishy" suspension, my next 4Runner will definitely be a Trail with KDSS.

Right there with ya. For what it is and at that price I would go with a trail all day. Most dealers will probably mark them up to 50 plus also.

I agree completely, the spring rate and what looks to be a negative rake angle don't appeal to me, but is certainly understandable given the desert runner focus.

Superficially, that front end is such an improvement and I'm a fan of the '14 face, even. I wish they would apply the Pro fascia to the Trails too so I can have it in silver.

Apart from the front fascia, you can obviously replicate all of the Pro "upgrades" for half the price. I do like the way they look for sure. This is really just marketing at its finest, and Im sure they will have plenty of people interested, just wont be the people on here. There will be buyers with enough money, and a lack of information about other options, that will eat these up. Dont blame Toyota for it in the least.

I agree, after the initial novelty, the local Toyota store will sell these TRD ala carte pieces for crazy mark-up too.
It does have that preRunner Tacoma look to it.

Interesting...the engine cover and intake on the TRD Pro look more like the previous gen single VVTI 1GR-FE. Looks like they repositioned the AIP as well. Is this how all of the 2014+s look, or is it just a 2015/TRD Pro thing?

I really like how the 2014's look, but I can't get over the front end of the TRD. It looks like some sort of fish with big black lips. On most cars, the grill becomes a distinctive centerpieces to the front end, but when they black it out, the front end just looks awkward. I thought maybe it was the orange color that was making them look weird, but with white also looks strange. The standard 2014 front end looks well defined (especially the trails and the limiteds), but the TRD just looks like it's missing something.

However, you could buy multiple iterations of an aftermarket suspension system (which carry their own warranties) similar to that which is utilized in the Pro, for less than the markup you are paying for the vehicle. Doesn't make it right or wrong, all I am saying is that it is a good piece of branding/marketing strategy by Toyota to take advantage of a particular market demographic.

I'm pretty sure if you asked Radflo/King/Icon/Fox they would totally warranty their suspension for 5 years for double the price. Just like Toyota is doing.

Eventually you realize that warranties and insurance exist because people can't be trusted to have their own emergency savings. 76% of the US population has less than $800 in savings, which is quite sad. If you took the money that you would spend toward warranty/insurance and put it in a savings account, using it for things that the warranty/insurance would normally cover, you'd be much richer in the end.

Considering the thread I believe he's just talking about warranties which are a type of insurance. I don't get the feeling he meant drop your home/health and collision coverage for a savings acct. Could be wrong but that doesn't seem like a lucid jump in logic. :biggrin2:
