4runner TRD Pro

Just because there is no bolt there now, doesn't mean it wasn't used in manufacturing. It's a possibility is all I'm saying.

Its not missing anything, same on mine. Remember these engines and parts are used on many models and in many regions around the world. The hole is there for something we either don't get or need. If you take a close look at any vehicle these types of things are everywhere.

I would consider black, but I prefer blue and red cars. This may sound odd, but in the Dallas area, the Dallas auto dealers' "marketing research" claims white, silver, and black are desired. People go to Austin, TX to buy other colors. So my blue S4 and blue Tacoma really stand out here in the Dallas area. I need to see the inferno orange in-person. Was disappointed that none of the TRDP vehicles Toyota had at SEMA were Inferno.

Hadn't thought about the pumpkin aspect. I thought about telling her that if I got stranded in the wilderness, I'll be easy to locate in the Inferno 4R.

While this may work for most women, I am married to the biggest cheapskate in Texas. She shops the clearance rack at Old Navy. She gags at the site of LV purses. And she begs for the UPS/FedEx trucks to stop making deliveries of vehicle parts, camera gear, astronomy gear, etc...

Serious questions here:
  • Do you miss the quickness and agility of the M3?
  • Are there days when you question your decision to swap the sports car for the SUV?
  • Do you feel that ridding yourself of the M3 has caused you to be a tamer driver, and thus safer?
  • Do you find yourself fantasizing about putting a supercharger on the 4R V6 because you think you'll miss the acceleration of the M3?
  • Are you already plotting on how you'll convince your wife that you need a sports car back in the garage while the TRDP remains your daily driver?

In case it isn't obvious, these things have all crossed my mind. I'm worried about giving up the S4 for a TRDP (or Trail Premium). Driving the S4 daily is an ecstatic treat. It has satisfied my mid-life crisis need for speed. Effortlessly accelerating and flying past traffic is almost therapeutic. I struggle to let the car slow to under 80 mph when on the hwy. Darting...oh the darting in and out of traffic saves me such precious time while thrilling my inner Mario Andretti.

I'm done tracking it...I fear my increased aggressive tracking style will tear up the car. The anxiety of owning something so costly rips my soul. Any little blemish that appears is significantly amplified. If my '07 4Runner gets a door ding, I laugh. If my S4 gets a ding, I tremble in utter despair, and obsess about it until I cough up the money to fix it.

Yes, I'm torn on what to do. :ballchain:

Two pieces of advice: one, you are damn lucky to have a thrifty wife and two, you're in hook 'em horns country so think about all the attention you'll get in the burnt orange!

Unleashed!

Off the lot and out in the wild!

The decision is easy. I went from 370z Nismo to Taco because my wife feared for her life. (Yes I know I should have been considerate when she's a passenger but I'm totally selfish.) Now that there's a bun in the oven, taco not practical because I also have 2 English Labradors. My thrifty wife who drives a BMW X5 4.4l and I have agreed that once a beamers 50k warranty is over, the vehicle is not wise to keep. We've paid over 6k of repairs at 80k. I am now plotting to trade in x5 for a TLC once trdp is paid off. So the decision was easy - we vowed to never own a European luxury vehicle because we don't like to flush money down the toilet. To those who don't mind wasting $$$ or who can rightly afford one, more power to ya!

Serious questions here:
  • Do you miss the quickness and agility of the M3?
    Yes. Everyday.
  • Are there days when you question your decision to swap the sports car for the SUV?
No. I know it was the right decision for me at this time of my life.
  • Do you feel that ridding yourself of the M3 has caused you to be a tamer driver, and thus safer?
Absofreakinglutely. In the past I loathed driving my Ram in the winter because I missed the M that was sitting in the garage. In the spring I would start having dreams at night of driving the M again. It made me hate my truck unfairly.
This past summer I really realized that this car was no good for me. I simply could not control myself in it, no matter how much I wanted to. I'd be good for a couple days and then it was all over again. I got used to serious speed. Three days in a row on the freeway I was over 180mph. I realized that if the car could go that fast then I would make it. There was nothing I could do about that and if I didn't sell it I would either end up killing someone or go to jail and never drive again. So I sold it and ordered a TRDP. Haven't looked back since and am very excited to finally get the T4R.
Now driving my truck full time I find I don't hate it all that much after all.
  • Do you find yourself fantasizing about putting a supercharger on the 4R V6 because you think you'll miss the acceleration of the M3?
Yes. When/ if a SC becomes available I will definitely be adding one.
  • Are you already plotting on how you'll convince your wife that you need a sports car back in the garage while the TRDP remains your daily driver?
She is well aware that another sports car will be joining the stable. Not for use as a summer car again though, I already made that mistake. The next will be a dedicated track car. Most likely the 911 GT3 my buddy is thinking of selling.

Bottom line, this decision was definitely best for me and my family at this time in our lives.
While the M3 was the sedan, it's still a painfully small family car. Tiny fuel tank, tiny fluid reservoirs etc., terrible cargo space and poor fuel economy. Yes, I'm aware it's a sports car. While I loved the drivers seat, the rest f the car didn't fit our lives very well. My wife drives a Q5 and I want to play off road again. The TRDP is just bad ass. I feel it was a solid lateral move for me. My boys can also enjoy riding in it without their lives being in danger or boredom killing them while they watch me run around the track.
Hope this helps and good luck.

:whoo:

My Super White TRD Pro was taking off the truck on Friday after about a two month wait. I sealed the deal and drove it off the lot yesterday afternoon.

24hrs later...... I'm in love with this thing!!

Pics coming soon.

About wives and changing cars.. My wife hates the FJ already do it's an easy choice for me regardless of what color the TRD shows up in. I won't buy a black car though ever... for any reason..
I do get to keep the '94 RX7 though. I have to have my fun car. I drive the truck %95 of the time but it sure is fun to slide (scrunch myself in) behind the wheel of the rocket for a country drive once in a while.

Glad to hear more of you are finally getting your TRD Pro's and enjoying them...I took a little half time break and went for a ride this aft.

I picked up my TRDP on sat. I freaking love it. I am shocked at how much I enjoy the 4runner. I have had trucks from the big 3, sports cars, a Hummer, and some VW, but this 4runner is up there with my favorites. I didn't think it would handle as well as it does. At highway speeds, there is not as much wind noise as in my Ram 1500 I traded in. I was expecting to miss the hemi, but I haven't yet. I normally drive fast and my wife complains no stop about it. When she was with me on saturday actually said "It doesnt feel like you are going that fast", I was going 90. I thought I would miss the sunroof and was disappointed about not having one, but after using the rear window, I love how it pulls the air out of the car, but it isn't as noisy as a sunroof. Only thing I dont love about the car is the radio system, but that will be an easy fix down the road. I just have to call and get my SSS Hybrid bumper delivered so I can get it put on and start looking for a deal on the Gobi Stealth rack. I did try to do my first Mod yesterday with plasti-dipping the rear chrome 4runner and symbol. I wanted to go with a red to match the TRD in the wheels. I spent a hour taping and making sure everything was perfect. Instead of testing the color out prior to doing all the work, I just started spraying. Turned out a glorious mauve color, which I absolutely hated and wasn't close to Red. So I spent the next hour trying to undo my first mod, and I think I am just going to leave it to the professionals to do. I had all of these grand ideas that I was going to be able to do all of this work after looking at how easy everybody makes it look. F that, I will work a few more hours and pay somebody to do it then spend 4 times as long and then still have to take it some place to fix my f up. Awesome vehicle. Love everything about it.

Got it!

Picked up my white TRD Pro tonight after it sat in the NJ port for almost 3 weeks for a mystery hold. I traded in my everyday driver a Mercedes 2013 GLK 350 after countless blowouts last year during the winter. I am coming back to Toyota after 20 years of my second car in HS (1979 Supra).

First impressions - The initial quality feels very solid. The handling is impressive for a body on frame SUV. I haven't really opened it up but its not as sluggish as the reviewers made it out to be. I like the interior and the seats actually feel more comfortable and supportive than my GLK.

Areas that I would improve upon - Larger LCD display and brighter headlights. I kept playing with the light switch as I thought the lights where off. I am coming from adaptive HID's so it may take time to adjust. I just ordered the PIAA replacements to see if there is an improvement.

Like some others, I am not missing the sunroof. It would have been nice but not a show stopper. Looking forward to take it upstate NY into the mountains for a little fun this turkey day.

N-fabs and tint next week. I have to say it was worth the wait.

What PIAA'S are you going with? I feel the same way about my Pro. Headlights could be better.

I ordered the Xtreme White Plus. It had good reviews but I am managing my expectations. I am sure they will not illuminate as well ad my old HID's but I am hoping there is a visible improvement. They do have HID kits that actually cost less but I really don't like the look of aftermarket HIDs, they may not look as bad on a projector lens like we have but still want to see if how much better it can get with the Piaa's first.

Just Got my Black TRD Pro 4Runner today

Just took it home tonight after a bit over 2 weeks since the dealer told me they could get me a black one.
Traded in my trusty, reliable and faithful 2004 4Runner SR5 with over 180K miles on it.
New ride is much higher (at least from the driver seat) smooth and more solid feeling.
Immediate differences - I think the 2004 (4.0L V6) was a little quicker on throttle response but it could be that I am trying to take it easy on the new car. Got it with only 3 miles on it.
Roll and nose diving not that much different than what I already had on the 2004 SR5. So it did not feel any better or worse as I am already used to that kind of feel.
I have a few pictures from my iPhone. I can work on getting more details if anyone wants specific parts.
One thing is that on this truck The passenger side front shock has no visible adjustment ring but the driver side does have one at the bottom. I think someone else posted that information as well. I doubt they can be adjusted as others were hoping.
From what I gather on the specs though the Tacoma front setup should be a direct fit should folks want the TRD Coil-overs to take it to 1.75"
I'm not tall, 5'8" but the hood reaches my lower chest when standing next to either front wheel. I will definitely need a step-stool to work under the hood! lol
I have been a 4Runner fan since 1995 when I couldn't afford one and settled for a 1995 Chevy Blazer. Had to wait until 2004 by the time I could afford a 4Runner but loved it ever since and was happy to get rid of the Blazer heap!
In my opinion all of you folks waiting on your to come in should be pretty happy with it when it does!
There was some sentimental sadness to see the 2004 go. It brought both my girls home from the hospital when each was first born. They love the new one but have already expressed the sentimental value of the older one.
At least the salesman at the dealership let me take the Toyota Rubber Cover off the trailer hitch receiver from the old one since the new ones don't come with one and now a piece of the old one is still going with us.
