You guys can trash it all you want. Can any of you do the TRD Pro mods better than OEM? No you can't. I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, but unless your last name is Shelby, Saleen or Lingenfelter, or you just happen to have a shop that has "AEV" Or "Icon" above the door, then all you are doing is bolting on parts and hope they work right with not too many squeaks and rattles. Yes, TRD sells bolt on parts too. The difference between you and the guys at TRD or any of the shops listed above is they actually design and build their components, not just bolt them on. They do little things like endurance testing, FEA modelling and oh, they offer a warranty too.

So please, before you pat yourselves on the back too much about being better than Toyota TRD remember what you do and what THEY do.

I get what you are saying but I can buy Icon and Bilstein who also do engineering and race development also the Toyota engineers aren't given free range, they are limited by the bean counters. It probably is the best that can be engineered at that price point. Not to say it isn't excellent for the money but there are several reputable people you can buy the parts from who have done similar levels of engineering. I know on my MR2 Spyder that the TRD parts were also rebranded Bilsteins, who did the engineering and testing? :shrug: Toyota doesn't race off road anymore. Hard to say who is more qualified, both are competent engineering groups. I'd have definitely been excited about this setup if they had modified the whole suspension to be long travel e.g. longer control arms. :lookout:

All I've got to say is some of you guys are not giving the TRD guys enough credit here, they're a bunch of actual engineers (and gear heads) trying to do their best with the constraints they are given.

I'm a fan. This is a step in the right direction for Toyota. I know some of you really wanted the Supercharger or V8 and are really disappointed but come on....Toyota is giving us factory modded trucks with full warranty. Sure they aren't as hardcore as some of the higher priced setups around here but for most, these mods will be more than enough to take you wherever you need to go. I'd buy a white one in a heartbeat.

And really the regular off roaders and modders (who make up a very small percentage of 4Runner drivers) are going to swap all that stuff out either way for the parts they want or just to make it "theirs". The TRD Pro could've come with all sorts of fancy stuff on it but I knew I wasn't going to trade mine for it no matter what because my truck is "mine". Take a look at joneseyyy, warnerd9, socaltrail, mikey's, and a bunch of others. All are heavily modified and live off road, but other than a couple of things in common no two are the same. The TRD Pro is simply made for a different target audience and just because you aren't that target audience doesn't make it a bad vehicle.

It may have sounded like I was trashing the truck earlier with my prediction of what it would have, but I wasn't. It was just an easy guess by looking at the FJC TT and the Tacoma TX Baja.

I'd get it. Let me say that our current 4runners satisfy 95% of the population and 98% of them can't use it hard enough for what it's designed for. Now Toyota can satisfy 99% of the crowd. Regardless of what Toyota does, that last 1% will always say they can build better, so that market is pretty much unreachable.

You didn't ask if it was "easy", lol, just if someone could do it...I am sure he will chime in after chuckling at this and say what he has always said which is he has a lot of respect for the companies that builds this stuff because it isn't easy.

I would also argue that TRD didn't exactly start with a clean sheet of paper on this one...there is nothing on the T4R model they are offering that is exactly ground-breaking or an engineering marvel here. Best part about this TRD version is the OEM relationship and coverage by factory warranty. For most folks, this is a great vehicle and highly capable. Will be interesting to see the price point/mark-up.

You nailed it KVA. Myself and plenty of people on here can attest to the work that it takes to make a stock vehicle into something that is, well.... truly exceptional.

I'll be honest... I like this truck better than the current Trail Edition. To me, the upgrades that Toyota did are much more useful and more significant. For 99% of the market, this rig will be everything they ever imagined and then some. It still comes down to the question potential buyers have to ask themselves, "What do I plan on doing with this vehicle???" I'm not sure what the sticker price is on this truck but you have to weigh in the fact that you can purchase an SR5 4x4, throw some REAL 2.5" resi, extended travel coil overs on the front, springs and 2.5" shocks in the rear and arguably have a damn capable rig for not a whole lot of $$$ invested. But many people don't want to take to time to do the work, the research, or threaten the validity of their factory warranty.... not to mention, as myself and others continually re-iterate here, this truck is a great option for 99% of the market.

Being a marketing major among other things, I have to laugh a bit at this. Marketing is EVERYTHING. Just look at this thread, over 25,000 hits since it started what, a week ago! All over the anticipation over the release of the new model which Toyota so cleverly teased us with for the last week. In the end this truck is only unique because it comes with slightly upgraded shocks... and SOFTER springs (why in the hell do they want softer springs in the front by the way, the soft springs and atrocious nose dive are one of the top complaints on this truck!!!!!)

If Toyota is listening.... please offer me a job.... have your people call my people and we can make magic. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
