Man, this is sooo right. Between my work, wife, 2 year old, 7 week old, two dogs, boat, house, and all the other stuff in my life, I might have a spare 30 minutes on weekdays and 1-2 hours on the weekends.

Long story short, my time is really really valuable.

Exactly. A guy drives by a Toyota dealership, sees a TRD Pro 4runner, likes it, buys it and does not think twice about it. He liked it for the color, or wheels, or interior or whatever. He is not a fan boy nor does he really care about the suspension much. He likes it because he likes it and has the money to buy it. Some of the youngsters here have not got that concept of time/money right yet. Question: How much is taking a hike or sitting on a beach watching a sunset worth? Answer: Priceless, or at least a lot of money.

thats me now . my priorities as i have gotten older are way different than when i was in my 20's.

i use to spend sunday afternoon washing/cleaning my vehicle, now i could care less if i wash it, hell my legacy i went 2 years before i washed it. i've had my 4runner since beginning of december and i havent thought of wasing it. maybe this spring.

This pricing doesn't look unreasonable to me. Consider a set of standard Icon coilovers. The best price I've seen is ~$1,150 for the pair. With the TRD Pro setup, you're looking at ~$900 with arguably similar components (2.4" shocks), but instead of having to worry about aftermarket parts on your 4Runner and the issues that presents with some dealers during warranty service, sticking with the TRD parts sounds like a good idea, at a resonable price. The $330/shock for the rear resi shocks, including the bracket is also reasonable. If you want a cheaper solution, you can just stick to the 5100 rear bilsteins (~100/each). I also wonder if keeping the stock springs the front is an option.

I know, some will argue that the TRD Pro vs. Icon comparison is not really fair because the Icon's will give you adjustability and up to 3" of lift, but by the same token, the new TRD Pro front shocks are an upgrade over the 5100 shocks as well, so it seems reasonable to pay a premium for these.

Add to this the fact that dealers will now be willing to install these on your 4Runner (and presumably at pricing similar to service rates for replacing shocks), then you have a win/win. If I was doing a suspension upgrade now to level the 4Runner and improve nose dive, I would seriously consider these.

If I didn't already have two 4runners and was in the market for a new 4runner... which I'm not, because I plan on squeezing every last mile out of the ones I have I'd probably buy the TRD Pro.

To get back on topic, I went to the Bassmasters weigh-in and expo in Birmingham yesterday.




With Toyota being the sponsor, the place was crawling with Tacomas and Tundras. Unfortunately didn't see any 4Runners. This tacoma, was heavily wrapped and modded as you can see, but is it a TRD Pro????





I don't follow tacomas like I do 4Runners. Has Toyota offered a Bilstein option on tacos in the past or is this the TRD Pro suspension???

That is not a TRD Pro truck. That is just a wrapped truck to help Toyota warm over americans. The more they can americanize the brand the better the sales are going to be.

Thats why they pulled the space shuttle across that road with the tundra, wrapped that truck etc.

TRD Off Road and Sport models came with those yellow bilsteins since 2005, at least. The TRD Pro and TX Pro or whatever, have the larger, silver bilsteins.

The Tacoma has actually been coming with the yellow Billies since the first TRD Off Road package was introduced in 1998. My '98 came with them.
