4runner TRD Pro

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum after reading quite a bit. I think I've talked my wife into allowing me to trade in my crossover for this TRD in fall. My bro owns a 14' wrangler with a 2in lift and 34s and has been asking me to hit the trail with him. On top of that, I've been in love with the 4runner for a long time now, it's about time I ask her to dance!

My question is if anyone knows what size tires come on this TRD Pro? I think they might be 32s like the Rubicon. Would this stock truck likely handle 33s without any problems? As many have talked about in this forum, I'll be that guy who'd rather buy an off roader that's ready out the gate. I don't mind messing with skid plates, sliders, tires and minor suspension work, but that's about it. Ideally, I'd like to keep it stock, plus some extra skid plate action (I'm a worrier).

I'm still very new to all this and really look forward to learning more about off roading with the 4runner.

pretty sure the specific tires for the TRD Pro 4Runner are still TBD, however, those Falken WildPeaks on the demo model are the standard 265/70-17 size (~32") common to all SR5 and Trail Editions.

there have been a number of people who've fit 285/70-17 (~33") tires on completely stock 4Runners; they've fit technically, but will rub when any considerable suspension travel comes into play.

the new TRD Pro is lifted 1.5" in the front only; the rear remains the same height as all other 4Runners. so you'd have a little more room up front for wheel travel, anyway.

I found this on 2014 Toyota 4Runner TRD Trail Edition 4x4 - First Drive Review - In Depth - YouTube

The title says "TRD" but I don't think so. So many variations of vehicles out there reviewers got lost in models/specs. Anyway, I think he has the right idea about how to test the runner.

Good looking out for posting this! I still get giddy seeing my Runner and watching this make me even more amped for my next outing. Truly motivating in its own sense.

I love how calm he is while he's driving like he stole it lol!

You have 45-50 grand laying about?

I doubt Toyota is going to price them anywhere near the TE's.

That's none of your beeswax! This is what I'm struggling to figure out, if you can price a TE Premium online for about 41.5k, and a brand new Raptor (I'm not a Ford fan, but that truck is great) costs about $44k, how could Toyota possibly price this at $45k or above? I suppose we'll find out soon enough.

Thanks for the tire information guys.

The tires haven't been announced yet, but you'll probably have to replace them with some 275/70 or 285/70 LT rated tires. Other than that you should be good to go.

If you don't mind messing with skids/ sliders/ tires/ suspension, you might want to just buy and TE and add that stuff. Either way, you'll have a capable SUV thats a lot more comfortable (but a little less capable) than your brother's JK.

The other thing you will most likely have over your brother's JK is reliability. I'm also waiting to see where toyota sets the price and go from there. I'm still thinking it will be far less than a ford raptor. IIRC, the raptor is in the $50k+ territory.

I'm saying is that the TRD Pro will cost more than a Raptor or TE, and dealers won't be willing to negotiate like on a Raptor or TE.

I bought my 13 TE new for 37.9 and I've priced Raptors in the low 40s.

It will probably draw a premium unless you have a good friend at the dealership. Is that worth all that money to you?

We are shopping for the Wife a new ride and shes narrowed it down between the Raptor and TRD Pro 4Runner. USED 2013 Raptors are topping $50k right now at about 30k miles. The only reason she's not sporting a new Raptor right now is she has a hang up about the lack of MPG. She averages 16 mixed now in her lifted FJ and I average about 13.5 in my armored up/lifted FJ. So she really does not want to make it any worse. Esp since this will be a daily driver. However, if it's going to cost as much as a Raptor, and be taxed like a Raptor, might as well have the power of the Raptor as well as the big V8 roar.

... but I know she'd be happier in the 4runner. She's loved her FJ so.

JV question here (as my old LT used to say) but, on the TRD Pro, there are two loops on the sides of the tow hitch, will these suffice as tow hooks if there's a need to be pulled out from the rear?

No, never use those for recovery. Get yourself a receiver shackle like this HitchLink

You can get steel ones for about half the price of the one linked. If you have to make do without one, put the loop of the recovery strap into the hitch receiver and use a hitch pin through the loop.

Not to beat a dead horse:deadhorse:, but I don't think I see the KDSS piston in the close-up view of the front suspension? Do you?
