Very conflicting info regarding KDSS which I think is a major advantage.
Edmunds says yes, other sites say no. Sandcrawler I hope you are correct, as I have spoken to a friend who managers a dealer near me, and I am the first on the list for one.
He has no info as of yet. I do not know if I would want one without that feature. Sandcrawler what component do you see in the press shots that you can identify as being part of the KDSS. Thanks

you can see here the beefy sway attaches to the lower control arm—KDSS. also note how the bends of the skid are designed around it.

Just found this video...thought it was pretty good...put deposit down on white one already.....Converting from Jeep finally. Not easy to give up my v8 WJ JGC Overland, but wife's 2013 T4R Limited will be complemented nicely by my TRD Pro...both in white.

PS: God, please have someone make a supercharger for 5th generation T4R asap.....and peace on earth would be nice as well.

Really enjoyed that video, finally someone who judges the 4runner fairly when taking into consideration it's design premise.

I'll have to check out more of Alex Dyke's video reviews.

The white TRD Pro I posted pics of last week did not have KDSS. Still doesn't confirm the lack of KDSS as an option, though.

i noticed that as well. the guy in that video referenced above noted that his test unit had KDSS. (he also stated incorrectly that KDSS comes standard on the Limited; confusing it with XREAS, no doubt.) i did think that guy did a good job with that review, though.

I would imagine you are seeing some with KDSS and some without because they are taking factory built trail editions then modifying with the the trd parts. Great way to test trd parts with and without KDSS to see which setup will ultimately be offered in the production model.

It having kdss was one of my conditions of purchase. If it ends up not having it, i am just going to get a tep.

They brought a TRD Pro to the FJ Summit to play with, I looked at the skid plate for several min (trying to catch a part number) and I am 99% sure the Pro was sporting KDSS.

Do you recall if there was a panel for oil filter access? I'll wait for the TRD skid, but if it doesn't have filter access, I'll buy the RCI Metalworks.

Well the skid was the only part I was interested in and I looked it over pretty well. I can tell you there was no access to the filter.

I currently have money down and a pre-order in for an Inferno Red TRD Pro. Supposedly they will be providing me with a build and delivery date in the very near future.

True that there are lots of photos with and without KDSS. I have personally seen two TRD Pro 4Runners with my own eyes and one had it and the other didn't. I can't wait to see how this is going to turn out.

Well the skid was the only part I was interested in and I looked it over pretty well. I can tell you there was no access to the filter.

I remember this specifically as well on both of the TRD Pro 4Runners that I have seen. No access to the filter via the skid plate. However, if the skid plate is worth keeping and actually using, being that it is made of aluminum, is going to be much easier to remove and re-install when needed. I am sure most of us here have suffered through the installation of heavy steal skid plates. It is never a technically difficult job but they are not light, not easy to maneuver under your truck, and mostly a huge pain in the @$$.

I thought I heard it will be the most priced 4R... That's pretty much what a limited would cost.

If you think about it though, that's not too bad of a price for the TRD Pro.

A Trail Edition 2014 with the Premium Package costs around $41k. So it's the same price as the trail premium, but gives you better tires, rims, upgraded front and rear suspension, a better looking front end (IMO), an exclusive color option, and don't forget the biggest upgrade... TRD Pro shift knob, badges, and floor mats!


In my opinion, if you were going to buy a Trail Edition Premium, might as well spend the same money and get more by getting the TRD Pro.

I think that is less than expected frankly - for someone that wants the Pro features, with a warranty, 41.1k isnt bad.

I was expecting them to tag the truck at $45, so coming in at $41 which is the equivalent pricing of a trail premium, that's not bad at all.

Hmmm, not too bad, less than I was expecting. I still can't get past the front end. Hopefully rumors coming from the FJ Summit are true and the front will change sooner than later.
